    Commercial Brewery Recipes And Legalities

My understanding is that if you write the recipe down, like in Jamil's book for example, the page layout, descriptions, pictures etc. are all covered by copyright. The actual ingredients list and quantities are not. So you could not photocopy Jamil's book and publish it yourself. You could...

    Chilling The No-chill?

Have you tried chilling no-chill containers in a fridge before? In my experience the fridge just acts as an insulated box and traps the heat in without really doing much to cool it down. I've found they cool faster sitting on the concrete in the shed than inside a fridge. Mind you, I only tried...

    Help! First Brew Carbination Dilema

Depends on the temp it was resting at. In summer, I'll usually have bottles carbed up in about 3-4 days. In winter they take a bit longer. If you are worried, upending the bottles to stir up the yeast shouldnt hurt and should speed up the process.

    No Chill Storage

After my first batch, I make a point of having a couple of litres of boiling water ready for if I miss my volume, just to fill up the air space if needed. You'll lose a few points of gravity, but better safe than sorry.

    Wtf

No idea what it is either, but I'm pretty sure I've seen the same thing once too. Tasted fine in the fermenter though so I bottled and ended up with beer that tasted fine. As long as it tastes normal in the fermenter you should be fine I reckon.

    Info On Yeasts And Hops

I don't think that the yeast you get with the kits is necessarily bad, it is just that it is usually transported and stored in the heat (along with the rest of the kit). This reduces the amount of viable yeast in the pack. This plus the fact that the kits usually only come with 7-8g of yeast...

    My Experience So Far

Great post! Your experiences with the coopers kits are fairly similar to mine, although I quite like the bitter, and the two 'lagers' I have done have been horrible. If you are brewing beer you enjoy, keep it up I reckon!

    Beginner Biab Setup

Well I've ended up going for an 80L stock pot that I found here: National food service , which is conveniently just around the corner from me. Paid about $120 for it. Also got an Italian spiral burner coming from beerbelly. A couple of weeks from now I'll be brewing all grain! Thanks for the...

    Beginner Biab Setup

Thanks all for the replies! I'm leaning toward the pot/burner route at the moment as it just seems more flexible and suited for inevitable future upgrades. Beerbelly looks to be a good place to source a burner and reg? I like the idea of the silicon tube with the syphon attachment. Looking...

    Beginner Biab Setup

Hello all, I've been mucking about with a few basic BIABs in a 19L pot on the stovetop, and I'm ready to move on to a full size setup. I've managed to talk SWMBO into letting me spend a few hundred $ to setup (based on the agreement that I get out of the kitchen). I've read around a bit, but...

Keeping Fermenter Cool Without Electronic Temp Control.

I'm currently running a fridge that I got after SWMBO decided we needed to upgrade our fridge in the kitchen. $5 timer from bunnings keeps it sitting at 18-20 pretty happily.
