Mark,

A collar is simply an extension (usually made of wood) to the height of the freezer that sits on top of the freezer body, the lid is then attached to this.

The advantage of the collar is the ability to mount your taps through it without having to go drilling holes in the freezer itself as well as giving you more internal height which can help to fit the kegs inside.

Here's a link showing pictures of my freezer and collar setup:

Hope that helps.

For some reason i thought a collar was on the bottom. Looks great and i cant wait to build one up. One question though how did you go wiring up the fridge mate. I have been studying the instruction booklet and i think i know how to do it. Do you have a vast knowledge of wiring or did you just wing it.

Thanks

I just winged it :D

Though having said that I followed a online guide showing photos of what goes where so it was really very easy to hook up.

Click HERE to load the site with the instructions & photos.

It made it all a breeze though if in doubt you might be best to get someone with a bit more knowledge to do it for you - this is 240V we're talking about.

Mark, the search button is your friend, dont be afraid to use it. If you search on here you'll find heaps of pics and info on converting chest freezers. Google/Google Image is good as well.
There are at least two big thread on Fridgemate's and wiring them up as well.
