I bought a turkey fryer a little while back and decided I would do a test boil with it. So I filled my 100 litre pot and set about boiling it. After about 35 minutes I gave up and the little 3kg bottle of gas I had was empty.

DO you normally have to mod the stands these turkey fryers come with to get a better contact area on a pot as
large as the one I have ?

Appreciate some advice :)

U might need to adjust/play around with the air intake to get the best/hottest flame.

Datfrog...if the bottom of your pot is flat, it's almost a given that the distance between the burner and the pot base will need to be increased...at least it did for mine. If the pot's too close the burner doesn't seem to get enough air around it to burn the gas effectively, resulting in increased gas consumption and poor burner performance.

However the bigger issue here may simply be your expectations.
100 litres of water is a hell of a lot of water to bring up to temperature.
If you look at your water needs for even a double sized batch brew it won't be as much as 100L and you really only need to bring the water up to ~80deg, from a start of say 25deg.
By the time you've got 90+ litres in the pot, it will be at ~65deg or maybe a little better, and then the energy reqd. to bring that up to boil ain't so bad.
Just a thought.

did you get a proper high pressure reg with it or is it one of the ray's outdoors mid-pressure regs Ive heard people warn about?

Wow! boiling 100 litres of water is gonna take a crap load of energy. just think of all the surface energy loss. maybe start out with doing a 23 l batch.
Do you have the right reg?
Are the jets still painted and a bit mucked up?
I have a rays outdoors burner nasa set up and it works great on 35 litre boils. the only quirk is I cant turn the air intake on full until its warmed up for a minute or two, then I can put it on full open.
Play around with it a bit until you get it right, but I would at least get a 9kg bottle.

if the reg is the problem do away with it, get a tap (BOC has them) that screws directly into the bottle (POL) and run off bottle pressure.
