Our club (Edmonton Homebrewers Guild) will get together once a year and contract a local micro (Alley Kat Brewing) to produce some wort which the club sells to anyone who wants it. We started doing this in conjunction with the AHA's Big Brew Day several years ago, but we have since broken away from formal participation in that event. This was held last Sunday April 26. You'll notice the snow - it was +20 about 2 weeks ago. Typical spring weather around here.
This is the infamous forklift BBQ. The temperature was just above freezing all day with scattered flurries from about 9am onward.
We bought 1500l of wort from the brewery - enough for 75 carboys @ 20l each. We sold 72. The brewer got better than anticipated extract too as we ended up with about 1600l of finished wort. The extra went down the drain.
This event ends up being a pretty good revenue generating event for our club as the brewery sells us the wort for $1 per litre and we sell it for $1.50.
