I may be a little out of touch with how the Australian Cricket team gets picked these days, but some of the guys in the squad for the 1st test in Brisbane have never even played for NSW!!!!! !!!!!!!
I guess we can still beat our sub-continental tourists with these non-NSW fill-ins tagging along

Hogg and Johnson, in my opinion should get the run, but if they are looking to experiment a bit, sure put tait in, mitch will run in the boxing day Test. Not sure why Mcgill is even being considered...I'd rather see Cam White as a second to Hoggy

We need a front-line spinner, either Hogg or MacGill. Cameron White just doesn't cut it with his Kumble-style top spin. We have a long enough batting order to not worry about the extra batting White would give over MacGill or Hogg, although Hogg is quite handy with the bat. At the 'Gabba with extra pace and bounce, I'd say Tait over Johnson (without any SA bias )

A quote in the Advertiser the other day read: "Who should be Matthew Hayden's new opening partner? None other than J. N. Gillespie!". What a champion!

Definitely think MacGill should be there. He's got 198 wickets in 40 tests for f**&() sake. He's more of a front line bowler as well IMO. But it's certainly possible that he's going to struggle for a test or two after being out of tests for a while.

I agree Tait over Johnson, but I reckon Johnson will get the nod.

Agree about MacGill. I reckon if gets the nod he knows it's his last chance to perform, he'll go good. Tait at the Gabba for sure, but like has been said, dunno if they'll give him the nod.

I was a little shocked to see all the ages of the "new" team. From memory there were only 3 or maybe 4 under 30 years old.

I thought the exit of McGrath, Langer, Martyn and Warne was meant to be the catalyst for down-aging the team?

Not saying that any player selected doesn't have the runs (or wickets) on the board, just thought it was the ideal time to blood more young 'uns.

* Jenkins, AKA Andrew Mitchell is a promising youngish RH opener who recently went from Epping 4ths to 3rds. A test opening spot seems to be well in his sights as he is from NSW Can also bowl a bit of off-spin.

That may be so, but one G.Meares (Epping) was very stubborn (slow) this afternoon, but managed to salvage a draw on a very wet day that saw very little cricket played in Sydney. If required for international duties (or 2nd Grade) I will speed things up a bit!
