Hi guys,

im located in melbourne, and here we have some excellent bottle shops for beer (slow beer, purvis cellars, ackland cellars etc. these guys all specialise in beer and are always keen to stock great beer outside of the mainstream) Will be up in sydney a little bit now and not familar with the market up there.

What is the best place to buy beer from in sydney while im there?.

i also distribute craft beer so am interested in selling victorian micros to some specialist bottle shops in sydney.

any reccomendations?

Cheers,

Northmead Cellars (worldbeers.com.au) (Around Parramatta Area)
Pitt Town Cellars (North-West) Bit of a drive..
Amatos - Inner West (Leichardt)

Unfortunately none of these stack up to what you would be used to in VIC, however are not too bad.

Northmead Cellars is pretty good. On the corner of Windsor Rd and Briens Rd.

+1 for Platinum Cellars at Bellevue Hill & Strathfield. Sydneys best in my opinion.

Does anyone know if Pitt Town Cellars still exists? Tried calling their phone# and it was disconnected...

The Beer Cartel - Haven't been here but others recommend it. Good range and do growlers too.

The Oak Barrel - Over 400 Craft beers & two taps for growler refills

Steve’s Cool Booze - Haven't been here but others recommend it. Have a few taps for grower refills too

Camperdown Cellars - Parramatta Road Store - A decent range of local & imported craft beers

Platinum Cellars Strathfield - small range & pricey

you all missed leura cellars. which fills the gaps between platinum and beercartel

2nd Beer Cartel

Best selection of sours i have seen if that floats your boat. It definitely gives me a massive beer boner :icon_drool2:
Nice Scandinavian section too which is full of delicious drops. Scando brewers are rocken :kooi:

sweet! Thanks for the suggestions and the list update!
I drove past Amato's on Sun - they had sale signs up... but were closed :(

Pretty amazing beer selection. Nice welcoming staff too.
Seconding this and a recent discovery. It's not a big place but they have a fantastic selection and plenty of beers I don't recognise.

Also, The Oak Barrel in the CBD.

+5 for Beer Cartel. Tad expensive, often there aren't discounts for case price (generally pay 6pack price) but if you buy a certain amount they'll give you 10% off, and they've got stuff generally before anyone else does.

Uncle Dan Murphy and First Choice can be ok price-wise as well as some Vintage Cellars, but every store is different, some are much better than others.

The Local Taphouse, Frankies Pizza and Flatrock Brew Cafe for all your on-tap / rare bottle adventures, if you're really nice and they know you well enough they might let you do a cheeky takeaway over the bar.

Drove out to Pitt Town on the off chance (much closer for me than anywhere else). No luck, just a local liquor with a tiny range. Makes sense in Pitt Town though. It's pretty small out there.

It's not in Sydney - but I was driving back from Jervis Bay on the weekend and the wine store in Berry: http://justinlillwines.com.au had a fantastic range of craft beers! Worth a look if you are going past.
