So someone is getting married in may, , and i'm wanting to brew a few kegs to keep the bar tab down from my..errr.. this persons piss head mates.
What's a good alround beer that will appeal but at the same time be a special brew?

fixa !
Serve em VB...........they will love it and it will keep your costs down (as its cheap ****) and thats what they will want.
But for you..............now thats the question mate ! find what you want to drink and keep it to you and yours.

Cheers

True... stuff 'em... and i should have said it'd be AG too...

Congratulations fixa

I got married about 6 wks ago and brewed 2 beers, a blonde ale with cluster in an attempt to mimic XXXX and a APA hopbursted with simcoe and amarillo to about 25 IBUs. The blonde was meant for all the non homebrew drinkers along with the cases of commercial beer and the apa for me and my mate... well low and behold they nearly drank all of the apa, left about half the blonde ale and Im still finishing of the commercial beer

I was totally shocked so I dont think there is an all round beer you can brew, but I would stick with something low in IBUs and dry to make it easy drinking.

Have a great day
Jye

VB costs at least twice as much as good quality homebrew.

I'd say keep it simple. Light malt bill (no crystals/caras), dry mash, PoR to 20IBU. Swill drinkers will possibly enjoy it, whilst it should still be good enough for you to drink.

ok, so coming up to a wedding i am sure you will have heaps of down time for brewing and your future wife would love you stuffin aroung in the garage half a day to save 20 bucks :p ! not.

stick with the vb idea fixa !

I'am more on the same line of thinking as swill is cheap enough anyway, if your gunna do it make something special and just buy the cheap stuff for the swillers.

Homebrewed 'VB' might be even cheaper but man thats just wrong.

Boozed, broozed and broken boned.

brew some awesome strong ale for yourself and your immediate family and crack one on your 1st anniversary, and 2nd etc. maybe make a yearly thing of it. help you remember when the date is and something to help you look forward to it.

I brewed 10 kegs' (20 litre coke kegs) worth for my wedding 9 years ago. I brewed two batches of hefeweizen, three batches of kolsch, and then an assortment of other things including a bock, alt, porter, bitter, and an English pale ale. The weizen and kolsch were gone within minutes of the bar opening. At the end of the night I had 3 half full kegs left. There were approximately 200 people at the wedding.

I tried to brew lighter styles since the crowd wasn't familiar with any kind of beer other than the mega swill available here. I also printed little posters describing the beer presently on tap, and everyone seemed to appreciate them.

Hope this helps.
