Submersible Element

Hi Group,

I have heard that you can get a submersible element and thermmostat for heating water. Has any one heard of these and do you know where you can get?

Yep, a hand held element is often what it's call. Or a Pail or Bucket heater. Essentially just an element with an extended handle. These are great for brewing, heat your HLT, bump up mash temps, boil in the kettle. I've seen them go for between $70 and $100 new.

I know grain and grape have them, but you can also get them from places like Tobins Electrical, Hotco or any sort of heating element place.

You can add any sort of temp controller to them, just wire it with plugs and you can plug in as needed.

As mention they are great to bump the temperature in mash etc etc.
Beware though as the element tend to break easy.

Yep Tobins for Immersion Heaters, bought one of these ages ago Item No: 4108 not the thermostat model though, maybe try Stokes.

Thanks for the infor guys, any experience for what model will suit. I want it to heat the mash and strike water with thermostat so set and forget. No more than 40l I would say.

Also need to keep in mind the amps, i.e. 2400W = 10A.

Most house power points are only rated to around 10A, so any larger than 2400W will lead to a tripped meter/blown fuse.

My HLT has a 2400W element, and heats 30L in around 45 mins (I think).

This will vary depending on insulation of HLT and other factors though.
