Scrumpy - Just Add Meat

Does anyone know why some scrupy recipes call for adding meat? What is it meant to do?

There are plenty of ye olde recipes for all sorts of fermented beverages that "require" whole chickens or cats or rats. It is pretty safe to say these additions can be omitted in our enlightened age.

Apart from the 1AM cock addition (and subtraction) - that one is essential.

Yeah seen a cock ale recipe in the beer and brewer magazine, and well they can stick that one i wont be making it.. In fact i get tiny bit of vomit in the bottom of the throat if i even think about it :icon_vomit:
