I have just started a mash and have used 250g f rice hulls in a 4 kg bill. I have forgotten to rinse them. What problems will this cause ? Should I just abandon the mash or is it worth continuing. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Never rinsed mine before, never had a problem.

Go pour yourself a cold one, sit back and relax.

I don't think you will have to rinse them - used them twice now with no rinsing, wasn't needed.

They have a lot of dust, so when you rinse them that all washes out. The dust liquid doesn't taste great, but again, I've used them without rinsing and noticed no ill effects (it was in an estery wheat though).

Hopefully it drops out with the yeast or something. Maybe it helps the yeast? :p

Should be fine, rinse them next time.

Used oat hulls for a brew and all we did was just gave them a bit of a shake to get rid of "some" of the dust. Beer tasted fine when finished.

Used a couple of handfuls of them a few days ago when I made a wheat beer.

I had had them sitting in a plastic bag at home for about the last 12 months.

Just threw them straight in to the tun with the grain.

cheers

I've never rinsed them, but if you are using a lot of them (ie. you are doing a 100% wheat beer), then you can pre-saok them in water, so that they don't soak up your precious wort.

Beers,
Doc

Used heaps of Rice Gulls in my beers, and rinsed one one occasion.
My beers are not dusty, but i sure can be the morning after :p
