hi all was thinking last night at 3am when i had my ritual wake up and cant sleep moment.(when this happens i think of brewing :D )

and i came up with an idea and im sure someone else does this but ive never read about it so i need some help.

when racking from primary to secondary or kegging etc. etc. i cant see the siphon hose through the fermenter and its hard to guesstimate whether im siphoning through the yeast cake and to make sure im not doing this i usually lift the hose up to far and the racking process stops and i have to start it again.(which increases infection)

does anyone know or use an idea? something that i can attach to the hose and drop in , as so it sits just off the bottom of the fermenter and not in the yeast cake.

cheers

ummm use the tap in your fermenter to pour it out perhaps ???

Just go from tap to tap...
Sterilize the taps...Open easy at first till brew gets above the racking tap..
"Easy Peasey"

the main problem is from the 20 litre plastic jerry can to the keg barra and i dont want to drill a tap into it bcoz thats more cleaning and sanitizing. spose im gunna have to stick with a guesstimate,

Thx to razz also but ill get shot if i spend any more on brewing equipment for at least a month  ok maybe a bit longer. (saving for a wedding)

im ok if i can buy it local but when the missus gets home and therez a delivery on the front step im up **** creek.

edit:looks like ill go back to my old method of using the tap if thats what everyone else does
its just to close to the slurry for my liking

Try putting a wedge under tap area..Tilt it back..Coupla days before you rack
