Hi Guys,

I'm wanting to put down a few AG brews (2-3 styles) to celebrate Oktoberfest this year and wanting to do a trial run to make sure they are the goods prior.

Looking for tried and true recipies anyone has as a staple of the styles.

Am thinking Dunkel, Oktoberfest and whatever else you may suggest.

Cheers,
cliffo

Cliffo,
My Oktoberfest has had +ve reviews - it's in the recipe section. It's not the darkest of amber lagers but IMHO it has a nice malty tones that are balanced with fresh hops that don't overpower the beer....
Recipe shortcut is here......

im planing my next beer to be my Oktoberfest beer

Most of my family ar not so keen on beer i make with large quantities of munich malt and low hops. They say they are bready, which is true. I like it but i want something everyone can drink and want more.

they all love my pale beers and we have all drank tooheys old forever so a dark beer is on the cards too. i say porter on tap and they come running with glasses held out :)

So im thinking either a munich helles or schwarzbier brewed to oktoberfest specs (1.054 25 IBU or so, maybe a bit more for the schwarz.

havnt deciced yet. Im thinking of leaning to the helles as it will be warming up and my next 3 full (50 liter) kegs to drain by then are amber bitter and porter and the smoked lager on tap now.

here is what i have planned...... will be no different to oktoberfest in an expensive pub in the rocks in sydney serving some dodgy pale german lager...... only better tasting, stronger and WAAAAAY cheaper.

I even have 2 x 1 liter steins :)

cheers

Oi, no wheat in a German Lager, it's anti Reinheitsgebot :p

You should have some Munich in there, try 20%, maybe even 5% Caramalt.

What a good idea.

Definately have to do a Hefe-weizen with 3068 or 3638, 55% wheat, 35% pils and 10% Munich.
I have a O'fest CCng which is 100% weyermann munich 1 (6 Lovibond), which is ~8 SRM, you could add 20-30% pils to liten it up.

Hi Cliffo,

I brewed Barry's Oscar Octoberfest back in March, it had been at 8-10deg for ages till I got around to bottling it last weekend, it smelt and tasted fantastic.
I left out the Acid Malt as I could not get any but still I reckon it will turn out a winner.

Cheers

I did one the other day, tastes bloody great!

1.5 kg Wey Pils
1.5 kg Wey Vienna
1.5 kg Wey Light Munich

Northern brewer to 35 ibu (dont shoot me i know its high for the range)
20 g Hallertau for flavour

Made 20l.

Wyeast 2308. Ferment under 10 degrees for 1 week, secondary for 1 week then keg and lager.

Nice and malty without being overpowering. Balanced by hop bitterness. Nice in the winter months.

Thanks guys.

Thats a good couple of options...now to decide what to run with.
