Drinking the 3rd version of my dark ale tonight. Fermented for 5 days, gassed for 2, now in the glasss. This is my fave dark beer hands down ( that i have made ). Perfect easy drinker with good flavour. The only variaton i didnt like was the last time when i swapped carafa1 for roast wheat, just too harsh. Anyway, here is the latest and best version which will stay as is from now on.

3.4 ger pils ( ran out of MO, but pils went fine )
120g Carafa1
200g Dark xtal
150g melanoiden
50g cara aroma

82g EKG 5% FWH
12g First gold 7.7% 5min
15g Fuggle 3.8% 5min

West Yorkeshire ale yeast.

Mashed 68c.

1.041
1.009
20 SRM
29 IBU

I like this so much i am considering swapping some base malt with wheat malt to 50%, and use the new dried wheat yeast,

Cheers

You're just doing it to make us jealous, you lousy bastard !! Here I am drinking a leftover Carlton Dark cos I have nothing better yet to drink, and here's you with some good stuff !!!

Yet to play around with dark ales and EKG - stayed mainly with POR and looking at making some Czech darks using the classics, so keen for your thoughts on where the Golding takes this drop.

Bottle one for IB5 if you can !

Funny, as i dont really like EKG, and i love my bitters!, but it goes really great in this beer, and considering there's 82g in there, it doesnt overpower the flavour, in fact ,if my nose is correct, it seems to blend well with the yeast aroma. This beer smells nice. I dont know the rules about using keg beer in Iron Brewer, but i'll definately be bringing some bottles from the keg to the Iron Brewer 5 do.

Carlton Dark?, funny, i made this beer originally as i only drink tooheys old when out and wanted something similar.
