G'day all,

I have a 2 year old Columbus that is flowering as I type. I'm moving house soon and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for moving the plant.

I received the rhizome from Grumpy's wrapped in a damp paper towel and stored it in the fridge (as per instructions) for a couple of months before planting. Obviously hops are hardy little buggers but I want to give it a good chance of surviving and giving me another crop next year.

Cheers

If you move before you harvest you will probably lose the crop.

I would just cut the bines back to ground level and dig up as much of it as possible. Then transplant into the ground at the new location. They are pretty hardy once established so it should be ok for next season.

Here is a picture of mine when I moved it aroung August/September last year. Depending on how many bines it has it may have quite a bit of rootstock, so be prepared to dig a lot.

cheers

The theory for tree's is theres as much underground as there is above, if hops are the same, be prepared for some diging like in johnno's pic!

Thanks fellas.

That pic is great Johnno. Gives me a much better idea of what I'll be up against.

I'll be moving some time in May so the crop will be finished by then (hopefully).

I would be taken a heap of cuttings also just in case when you do dig it up it dies.
