John Guest fittings breaking

Has anyone had problems with John Guest fittings breaking? I was just moving some kegs around and had two of them break? The grey ring just fell apart. They are only 5 months old

Yep, i have a whole collection of loose parts as well.

mostly using barbed connections these days.

I've had JG fittings for 5 years and only last week this happened to me for the first time too.

Until about 3 months ago I don;t recall ever having this problem - in the last 3 months I think I've lost about 10 different JG fittings to this exact problem. I've found some identical fittings made of stainless steel (the inner bit that breaks is still plastic but seems sturdier and haven't had any problems yet)

I really don't think these fittings are designed for a lot of movement and flexing that we put them through in the HB enviroment, I think they are designed for being in an immovable, static environment.

So many people swear by JG fittings but I've had nothing but problems with them

They either break, as per your pic, or the hose gets jammed in & is impossible to remove. I have a shitload of them with small bits of hose hanging out the end, relegated to the 'brew graveyard'

I use barbed MFL fittings now & they kick ass

I also bought JG fittings to build my kegerator. They leaked gas constantly, massive PITA so I chucked them all for barbed connectors and wire clamps. No leaks since the change.

I've used barb fittings in my rig in the past but recently moved up the chain to jg fittings.
Mainly because the new gear and font I purchased didn't give me a lot of room or make it possible to replace the hoses.
After a little research I found out that there is a difference in the hose types for jg and standard barbs.
Where you won't have any issues with barbs and hoses as long as it's a tight fit, jg fixtures are based on imperial measurements.
So if you are using say, a 6mm hose with a jg fitting, you may experience a little leaking especially with gas.
But yes, its true that a jg fitting is more comfortable with static fixtures.

I have found genuine JG fittings used in the right application to be great, cant say much about the company though.

Totally agree - I've noticed a string correlation to the amount of breakages I've experienced to the amount of mucking about with my QDs and kegs. Thay're probably fine in a static enviornment.
