G'day brewers,

Regardless of the pros and cons of the value of using it, and being a grow-it or gather-it kind of fellow, I wanted to check with the knowledgeable types here regarding what species of known southern ocean seaweeds are suitable to use as Irish moss?

This puppy is the usual contender http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chondrus_crispus but I don't know if I can find it locally growing.

One of our old stalwarts (patron of Ausbeer) Gordon Clarke (dec.???) used to collect his from Point Lonsdale but didnt specify what species, so any help is well appreciated.

ive gotta be honest i have no idea but if there is anything in the bay to use i am all for it. im always pulling up one weed or another on my fishing line so if i can use it then there is a few less fishing trips that are wasted because i catch nothing. being married you need some kind of exuse!
