Hi all,

I am a newbie all grain brewer, brewing my fifth beer. I thought I would try the new age Aussie wheat ale by Tony in the recipe section. After doing the protein rest at 52. I began to raise the temp but my crown urn would not heat up. After some troubleshooting I figured out the urn element had a burned on layer of crud. It took me twenty minutes or so to drain the urn clean the element and get it up to mash temp. Probably half hour all up at 52degrees. Will this affect the beer too much? Thanks for any advice.

Matt

Someone with more experience will provide more detail (or correct me!) but I believe this may impact head retention and body etc.

That said 30 mins doesn't sound THAT bad - how long was it meant to be for?

I agree with the prince you may have some trouble with head retention but nothing major, you will have definitely made beer.
