What's your favourite lager?
I'm a big fan of pilsners but I'm trying to recommend some awesome lagers.
I just tried a James Bond ;) and quite frankly, I find POR in a lager pretty much overkill and repulsive.
Carlsberg was OK but a bit aggressive in the hopping as well.

Save me Jeebus!

"I'm a big fan of pilsners but I'm trying to recommend some awesome lagers." meaning, not pilsners.

Paulaner Oktoberfest Mrzen. Don't have more than a few though! :icon_drunk:

Paulaner Salvator, technically a lager, big, dark, rich and tastes amazing.

not my fave but nothing wrong with Amsterdam Mariner, for a cheap alternative, especially when you but a carton of 500ml cans for $37. Compared to aussie swill Im sure it has plenty more malt and is a great lawnmower beer.

Paulaner Helles, bock, wheinstepner pils, orignal mild (helles) lowenbrau,,,bitburger for swilling, trumer pils, Budvar is a fav better than urquell, hofbrau octoberfest but it aint an fest beer but not bad all the same.....Just a few to try good after a hot days work

 AMSTERDAM MARINER!?!?!?

I'm sorry but are you $%%## nuts? He said "I'm trying to recommend some awesome lagers."

not

"I'm trying to recommend some of the worst things ever put in a can masquerading as beer."

I hope you were joking....really I do...

Bitburger and Lowenbrau for the lights, Kostritzer Schwarzbier for the darks, Steinlager for the hell of it.

I must say, thinking good and hard, I can't think of an Aussie lager that I really love, which is a bit sad.

Edit: oh - I haven't had it for years, but Negra Modelo was delicious and I'm pretty sure it's a lager.

Stella Artois ok thirst quencher but not very flavoursome.
Lowenbrau any day of the year.
Carlbergs great with hotdog and mustard hehehehe only kidding ok lager.

How bout XXXX lager ^_^

you guys are confirming my fears, it is really hard to name a great Aussie lager!

i really enjoyed a Kronenbourg the other day (good old maize!) I'd forgotten about Lowenbrau.
thanks to Jazman for naming almost every other style :p
and i have to admit, right in the heart of summer, I have been guilty of swilling those 500ml cans on occasion

Anything Andechs or Ayinger... Good luck finding 'em here though. :(

One maybe two Aussie lagers deserve a mention in dispatches... Gage Roads and "maybe" Matilda Bay though I reckon that's gone way down hill of late.

I reckon the problem with Aussie Lagers is the brewers are afraid to think outside the box (with the exception of Murray's). They need to head down the Mac's Hop Rocker path. What a great beer. :)

Warren -

OK, i'm going to go with that Warren. Gage Roads do make a good Aussie lager!

Knappstein? That's Australian, and pretty out-of-the-box.

and i have to add that James Bond would probably be a great beer if it didn't taste like stale woody POR. Why must Aussie lagers HAVE to use POR for everything?? Replace that with Hersbrucker or Tettnang and I'd almost go back to buying beer!

knappers is a tasty beer but not the kind of session beer I'm looking for. I think if i had a whole carton of it, it'd take me ages to get through.

Bintang - but you have to be in Peanuts at Kuta.

and Tiger - but you have to be eating spicy food in Singapore....
