My first imperial stout
A recipe inspired by some of those I have seen posted here. All extract as I am still assembling the gear to go partial/full mash. 12 Litres as that is the size of the boiler I have. It's a starting point...
Bitter Chocolate Imperial Stout
Russian Imperial Stout Type: Extract Date: 1/18/2006
Batch Size: 12.00 L Brewer: Jason Ball Boil Size: 13.74 L Asst Brewer:
Boil Time: 60 min Equipment: My Equipment
Ingredients
Amount Item Type % or IBU
3.00 kg Dark Dry Extract (34.5 EBC) Dry Extract 85.6 %
0.20 kg Chocolate Malt (886.5 EBC) Grain 5.7 %
0.15 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt - 55L (145.2 EBC) Grain 4.3 %
0.15 kg Roasted Barley (591.0 EBC) Grain 4.3 %
70.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [5.20%] (60 min) Hops 52.7 IBU
30.00 gm Fuggles [3.80%] (15 min) Hops 8.2 IBU
36.00 gm Lindt Choccolate (85% cocoa) (Boil 10.0 min) Misc
1 Pkgs Irish Ale (White Labs #WLP004) [Starter 1000 ml] Yeast-Ale
OG 1.093 (Spot o what I expected)
Estimated Final SG: 1.025
Estimated ABV: 8.9%
Bitterness: 60.9IBU
Color: 86.6EBC
The brew went well, all to plan. The Yeast starter went nuts on me, the most lively starter I have ever had, a 1 inch krausen in the starter has to be a good sign. Just waiting for the brew to finish cooling to ferment temps (18c) to pitch the yeast and it should be a goer.
I'm really looking forward to tasting this one on a couple of months
