Excise On Home Brew Kits?

I don't think i'd worry too much. That was a year and a half ago and it has not happened yet.

What makes you bring this up now?

Even so, they're not really calling for an excise. The article stated:
"In the past, rival brewery executives even called for an excise on home-brew, which they felt was partly responsible for their falling sales volumes."
Now (or at least in July 04), the article talks about the Commercial Brewers getting in on the Home-brew action by selling starter kits like the old Coopers ones.

In my opinion, this is not a bad thing - At the very least, a reasonably priced starter-kit with good instructions will encourage more people to start Home Brewing.

That's certainly how I got started with a Tooheys kit. I've just had my very first brew bottled for nearly a week now, but being my first "trial" batch, I'm more than prepared to tip it down the drain if it turns out bad. If it turns out ok, then all the better for me! :)
