Hi all,
I know that Coopers Heratige Lager has an EBC of 5.6 and an IBU of 24.4 (typically) when made upto 20L.
What is the magic number that is used to work out the EBC and IBU for adding extracts in beersmith.
Hope this makes sense.
I think it may be worked out at 5 US Gallons (18.93L) but not sure.
Which would give an EBC of 5.9 and IBU of 25.8.
Does this sound right?
Cheers.

Some time ago I worked 'backwards' with Beersmith to get the effective colour and bitterness values for a number of kits.

If for instance I create a 20l batch that only has the Coopers Heritage kit, and I pretend that the extract has an EBC=7.1 and 32gm of a 5% hop for a 60 min boil I get the values you have below.

Adding sugar/malt extract etc will (slightly) darken the beer, but again Beersmith can work it out for you.

Does that help?

Trev

Thanks Trev,
Seems to be about right.
Cheers.
