I was introduced to this beer by a pommy mate while staying with him in Hereford. In fact, he introduced me to the world of cask ales and is probably responsible for my love of beer today.
DGWS stands out in my memory as being beyond spectacular. The flavours seemed to come through in layers and it was complex beyond anything my Guinness-educated palate was prepared for.
Until now, I had thought it was our own little secret, but it has just won CAMRA's champion bottled beer. Sadly they're not exporting to Australia yet, but do yourself a favour if you're in the UK and keep an eye out for this beer.
Here's a link to the Wye Valley Brewery, who make this delectable drop:Link
If you find it and like it as much as me, they list their grains and hops on the website and a casual enquiry from my mate revealed that they use Whitbread yeast. I'm already planning my first experiment!
