Hi,

I am a new brewer, lovin it. I can't wait to get my lips wet from my first brew, even if it is crap.

But I have one issue.

Where do you get your bottles from? I understand that I can buy them but it is quite expensive, and I can go out on recycle night which has eaten alot of fuel for me.

Is there anything else in Sydney that I could try that is fairly inexpensive?

Thanks in advance.

Find a palatable beer with good strong bottles and buy a few cartons. That way you get decent beer and free bottles. I don't see why you should spend more than 5c for a bottle, that's what the bottle depot gives me.

Other idea that many people do is visit a few function centres who may have plenty of bottles for disposal. People generally do this to get champagne bottles as they are bloody thick. Only problem with champagne bottles is that you'd have to get a super-automatica capper (big lever capper on stand) and a "tirage" attachment, as the top is wider than normal crown seals.

Cheers and welcome to the forums.

Adam

Have all your mates round for a BBQ and make them drink longnecks. After a few BBQ's, you'll have a pretty impressive bottle collection.

Im working on my bottle collection tonight in fact...

Had a thought, I was having dinner and beers at UNA's on broadway not too long ago, and they serve all these wonderfull weizens from 1/2 liter bottles.

I saw them chucking em all in the recycling bin. Might be worth your while popping in there, I'm sure they won't mind.

There have been several threads on this topic, which have pretty well been neatly summarised above, except for 1 option which is to put ads in the local freebie papers/community/shopping centre noticeboards.

I got 23 dozen longnecks like that - only cost me $50 for the lot. B)
