See the QLD Homebrew Conference thread for the results.

i havent read the thread yet, but im not surprised, i just finished building a monster HERMS system, and the other brewers in geelong do BIAB and get fantastic results, i might just make mine a quadruple BIAB machine going by the beers i have been tasting.

Was there feedback on why it won?
Pretty sure its just a show of hands M^B, so like a Best of Show round.

I'd guess we'll hear all about it in due course, but not until tomorrow and after a few beroccas! :beerbang:

@phoneyhuh - slightly :icon_offtopic: but your signature was my experience at Melbourne Cup last week for work. Went to a place where they only served Carlton Mid, Carlton Draught and Cascade Premium Light.

I, as any self-respecting beer snob would, went dry.

I remember everything and I rolled into work on Wednesday morning without the hangover most here did.

Some people knew I was a little fussy with beer, but were gobsmacked that I drank nothing but water the entire day.

are you sure it was the beer snobbery, or the hefty price attached?? hahaha :)

I was in geelong for the melb cup. Only tap beers on where i was, carlton draught, in half size glasses. Luckily i spied a few asahi in a fridge. They ran out quick, and managed to get a few abbotsford invalid stout. Being from NSW, i had never seen it. It was ok. Finished up with a carlton black. Not a memorable beer drinking day!!.

I didn't pay for it, so that was okay.

But the piddly sized meal (of average quality) and my dryness means that my employers didn't get value for money for my ticket.

So, yep, beer snobbery. Anyone who passes up free beer, because it's mainstream nasty junk is definitely a snob.

I drank a micro beer and my first reaction, actually 2nd (the first was to sniff and try to identify hop varieties) was "this is nice, balanced, bitterness and decent aroma, but no enough 10 minute kettle additions - I can't taste any hops."

As I wrote last week - I've ruined my palate.

Easily the best beer they make. Much nicer if you let them warm up (which is hard at the pub, I know).

BIAB thread derailed by BIAB brewer - classic

What made me laugh was Bribie didn't like his own beer, reckoned it was too watery
He voted for the Getto beer, so he should enjoy the plastic buckets he's switching too :p

IMHO, technically the Braumeister beer was well in front, but the BIAB had some diacetyl which with the lower abv made it very sessionable, so I actually predicted it would win even though i voted for the Braumeister.

Cheers Ross

Second the Braumeister vote - thought it was a very nice beer. Not sure it was $2500 worth of nice but it certainly proved the system isn't all show and no go.

The Ghetto beer made me think I was drinking red wine (or sherry) - not my cup of tea (or beer) at all.

Clearly the secret to making great beer at a demo is to forget one of the key pieces of equipment - brew in a what?

Cheers,

Ed

Almost everyone I spoke to voted for number two - the Braumeister. I was surprised that it didn't win.

Well it did win actually. Splitting hairs to separate them, but I had to......no fence sitting here it QLD.

FYI - The 2 best beers as voted on the filtering, kegging day by at least 8 different people were No.2 & No.4.

It's good that the same result came out on the day also - 2 beers clearly ahead.

The best 2 beers were totally different as well - it just shows you that everyone picks their favourite for their own reasons...

It was fun, so we'll probably do it again, but I say someone else can do all the running around next time :p .

Was the sparging in the Ghetto and the 3V an issue?
