hi k&k ers, what is the best kit beer that you have done for your keg system,i have just got my keg setup and have gone through the first keg in about 10 days,no one else has drank any but just trying to get the system balanced and pouring beer to get it right has produced a near empty keg,now i must say i am not a big drinker but with all the wastage it is all but gone,i have an irish ale in the next keg so thats been in there for about a week, now i have a tiny critters pack with a coopers pale ale can and yeast cultivated from a pale ale stubbie fermenting now,so if you have a really tried and proven k&k plus xtras i wouldnt mind seeing the recipe for my next brew, now that the initial flurry of put anything together has gone.the first one was a coopers pale ale with a coopers sparkling ale adda pack and yeast under the lid, actually quite surprised with this as being the first keg beer it was quite a nice drink
cheers

Brew what you like. It'll taste good from the keg. Anything. For my first I brewed a supermarket lagah kit with a kilo of DME and half a kilo of dextrose just to bang something out quick, and it was great. Seven days from tin opener to brain.

You probably want this thread moved to the K+K section for more responses.

In my Kits n Bits phase I always had consistent results with:

Morgans Queensland Bitter
500g Light Dried Malt Extract
750g Dextrose
Kit yeast

When the initial 'krausen' in the fermenter has gone down after a couple of days add about 15g Cluster hop pellets - Lion Nathan use Cluster in some of their brews like XXXX

Fine with gelatine

This will produce a beer that would sell if they put it on tap at your local pub. Not a great beer but very drinkable and the sort of brew that friends and family say "ooohh did you actually brew this yourself ??

Bribies suggestion sounds good for a quick brew. But either way, try and ween yourself off of the pre packaged enhancer packs, purely because you don't know whats in them. If you don't know what makes up the ingredients (specifically) its very hard to try to make any adjustments or improvements.

The more malt, and less dextrose you can get away with for a given kit, the better. And your personal preferences will play a big part, as well. So using Bribies recipe as a suggestion....I personally don't like beer that is bitter (as opposed to Bitter in the English sense, which isn't very bitter at all ;) ). So instead of changing the kit to one less bitter, and keeping the adjuncts the same, I would stick with the bitter kit, and increase the malt, and reduce the dextrose, to re balance it to my personal tastes.

Yes on reflection I would have done better with a kilo of LDME and less than 500g dex. At the time I was ramping up supply and doing two brews at a time and the LHBS does LDME in kilo or half kilo bags and dex in kilo, half kilo and *bingo* in 750g bags. So it was convenient to split the kilo of LDME between the brews and chuck 750g of dex into each brew. Lazy  Nonetheless if looking for a more commercial keg beer style like you get at the pub or club I would certainly use as much dex as appropriate because the mega breweries all go through truckloads of sugar and it's part of the style, like the yanks brew with more rice than could feed a Chinese city :p - heck we're talking k$k here not all grain six-month-lagered pilsener with Wyeast, noble hops and the whole shebang.

Hello dere folks,

My recipe is similar to bribie's.

1 can Morgans Queensland bitter
1 kg light malt powder
350g dextrose
200g raw sugar

Add 1 teabag Goldings to keg when filling. (Soak in water as per pack
instructions and add pack and liquid before filling).

A good rule of thumb is to use Marstons percentage which is 83% malt and
17% dextrose.

cheers

Baby, you knoooow what I like!
