From here.

If you had the time, I'm sure you could make a killing at the local markets making and selling these.

Instead of sending them off to the dump or recycling center some enterprising young chap realised that with a little bit of effort those empty beer bottles scattered around the apartment could easily be converted into unique goblets suitable for wine or other drinks. Made by simply cutting off the bottom of the bottle and attaching it to the top these goblets are only created from bottles without stick-on labels so they can be easily washed and reused without anything peeling off.

I remember back when K-tel advertised big time on the tv. They sold a cutter for doing exactly the same thing, I wonder if any old brewers have one kicking around in their shed ? :D

we used to get JD bottles and put model harleys in them
the scratchy Ktel thing worked well but we did a few with string dipped in metho which worked OK but not as clean as the scratchy method.

I'm pretty sure that I have an uncle with one of these K-tel glass bottle cutter utensils.

I thought about this a while back.

Time to act now?

Seth

Doc,
Do they appeal to you? They're downright ugly! :)

Razz,
Thank you for making me sound older than I feel. Those cutters are probably stored in the same place as the Record Selector.

A friend of mine was doing this about 30 years ago. He bought some sort of kit that he used to cut the bottles.

This was before he and I started home brewing and found a much better use for empty king browns.

I have one of those K.Tel thingys somewhere...
Used to cut flagons in half,,,,One i disposed of the contents....
