Visited our Cuz in Sydney today for Christmas drinkies and nibbles. Now Cuz does not drink but has this fetish for collecting "things".

"Wes, can I get you a beer? We have Tooheys New"

"Cuz, that is not beer mate"

"Well have a look in the esky - there are some others in there"

Checked the esky and immediatly recognised a Schneider Weiss cap. Beauty I said and reefed the bottle out, off with the cap and poured out the "original Hefe". I looked more like a dunkel in colour, smelt ok and actually tasted fine except the flavour was a little different from what we had in Munich back in September. The bottle looked a bit strange too and the label was all in German. Eventually found the BBD - 12.5.95

The bloody beer was 10 years old! and quite drinkable too.

Was there a song about that beer in the Sound of Music sang by the Captain ?

I remember the Lyrics it went something like this I think

Schneidersweiss, Schneidersweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me

Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

OK Wes we need the story behind the story.
