Withdrawn Grainfather Whirlpool Arm, Hop Basket

The Grainfather Whirlpool Arm is in new condition. The hop basket has been used, but is in very clean condition. $30 for both. Pickup preferred from Newcastle, but can post.

    Vic Secret hops

I have a heap of Vic Secret hops that I was trying to work out what to do with. I make and like IIPA’s, so I was thinking of making one exclusively with the Vic Secret. As in past IIPA’s, I’ll do a 60 min and 20 min hop addition, whirlpool, dry hop in fermenter and dry hop in secondary keg...

    Saving money on home brew

I know it’s a bit of a joke about saving money by brewing at home. I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of spending several thousand dollars on gear. But I’m at the stage where I’m struggling to find anything left to spend money on. So I’m feeling good that I have a nice little brewery setup. I’ve...

    Doppelbock Brew

Anyone got and tips for making a Doppelbock? I’m about to have my first go at one. I like brewing with simple/minimalist recipes and letting the process influence the beer. Malt wise, I’m thinking one third each of Munich I, Munich II and Pilsner. I see a lot of the US brewers use Caramunich...

    Re-iterated Mash

I recently did a Barley Wine with a 15kg grain bill. I ended up having to use all my water to mash with, leaving nothing over for sparging, so efficiency was down quite a bit. So I'm about to do an Imperial Stout, and thought this time I would try a re-iterated mash. Haven't done this before but...

    Increasing Mash pH

I’ve done a few AG brews now and the mash pH has always been on the low side, but close enough to not adjust anything. I’m probably only a couple of brews away from a RIS, which is going to push the pH down even further, at a time I want it to be higher to suit the style. So, how do you...

    Immersion Chiller

This is the immersion chiller that came with my 65L BrewZilla. It is brand new and never used. Measures 28cm wide and is about 10m long. Due to its awkward size, prefer pickup in Newcastle. $50.

    Home Brew vs Commercial

I've enjoyed a couple of bottles of my first AG beer now. It's a Russian River Pliny The Elder IIPA clone. The second bottle I drank along with another IIPA I like and that's the BentSpoke Sprocket. It occurred to me the big advantage home brewers have over the commercial guys. Firstly, we...

    MillMaster v MaltZilla Mills

I need a mill. I was going to get the MaltZilla, then I found the MillMaster which looks very good. The larger, fluted rollers in the MillMaster look better to my eye than the rollers used in the MaltZilla. Anyone care to comment on these mills or any others I may have missed.

    Brewzilla 65L

Ok, so I’m going to order a Brewzilla this weekend. I’ve got to start figuring out how to use it, so here come the annoying questions. I see lots of people get rid of the top screen and overflow pipe to make stiring the mash easier. But, if you’re recirculating the wort through the grain bed...

    Fermenting out big beers

I’m curious how this works. I’ve got some big commercial beers, like a 16.8% RIS. How do you ferment out a beer that big with ale yeast. Do you let fermentation run it’s course, and then throw in something like champagne yeast to finish it off? I’m thinking much over 12% ABV requires special...

    Competition Brewing

After such a rubbish 2020 I’m looking forward to 2021 and thinking ahead to beer comps. I would like to put a beer or two up for assessment. Do you guys brew with an eye on beer comps? When and where are comps likely to occur in the coming year?

    Prolonged Airlock Activity

My Belgian dark strong ale has been in the fermenter for three and a half weeks now and has finished fermenting. I plan to transfer it to a keg for conditioning in the next few days. However, there is still airlock activity, about once per minute. I'm curious where this comes from, and whether...

    Brewzilla vs Guten

I’m looking ahead to getting an all in one system and move to AG. It will probably be one of these two models. I have 15 amp. I need guidance as to what size unit to get as that will go a long way to helping me decide which brand to buy. The only thing I’m sure of is the smaller, 35L versions...

    Rolled Wheat vs Torrefied Wheat

I just included both of these in my order, because I couldn’t chose between them. I’m going to put a small amount of one in my next Dunkelweizen brew to increase the head retention. I suspect either will do virtually the same thing. If you had to chose, which one would you use?

    Converting Flaked Barley

If I do a mini-mash with 1kg of Dark Munich and 200g of Flaked Barley, will the Munich have enough power to convert the Flaked Barley? If not, I could add a small amount of Pilsner to do the job but it’s not what I wanted to do with the Dunkelweizen recipe.

    Yeast Starter

I’m about to do my first yeast starter. It’s going to be 3L using one Wyeast smack pack. I’m not sure how long before brew day I should make it. I do want to leave 12-24 hours at the end to put it in the fridge to settle so I can decant most of the liquid off the yeast cake. Most references...

    BrewZilla 65L

I see KL are having a Black Friday sale with $100 off their 65L BrewZilla. I’m slightly tempted given it seems good value at only $550. But is a 65L overkill given I will never brew double batches. Though I will be using it for high OG (1.120) type beer that I guess is going to have a big grain...

    Rochefort 10

Belgium dark strong ales are my all time favourite beers. This is going to be my first go at making a quad, though I will brew a ton of these, so it's really just the start of the journey. These are the beers I want to get good at, and will be the main reason I move over to AG eventually. For...

    Stir Plate

I’m looking for a large size stir plate that will hold a 5L size flask. Does anyone have any recommendations?
