    Partigyle Attemp

Enjoying the discussion about HERMS and the theories and practices people employ. I also think that the mash temp is very important as I think the chemistry of conversion takes place in the mash tun. Recirculating the wort thro a HERMS enables you to keep that temp fairly constant, depending on...

    Sabsosa 2009

Hope that when the results come out that people support the SA brewing community by coming along to the presentation at the upgraded Holdy this Sunday 27/9 at around 12.00. Beer & Brewer mag have given us two subscriptions to give away as door prizes for those attending on the day. Nice one...

    Firestone Keg Posts

Yes these kegs seem more weighty than the US ones and are worth keeping. Pok, what are you asking for your pin lock posts and what type of JG fittings will convert them to ball lock gear?

    Firestone Keg Posts

Thanks guys for your help with web site info. The kegs are the Mytton/Rodd type. It seems to be a cheaper option to buy 2 complete Cornelius kegs rather than buying the replacement parts. Thanks Pok for the offer of pin lock posts, but my other gear is ball lock. Time to consider the...

    Firestone Keg Posts

I have just aquired a couple of Firestone kegs at the right price, but they are missing some important bits, namely the liquid and gas posts. They are different from the usual Corny kegs in that they have a male thread to attach them. Anyone have some surplus to needs for sale, or know of how...

    Sabsosa 2008

Hi Grego, Yes the close off date is 30/8 and Brewmaker is open from 10:00am til 5:00pm on Saturdays. The judging day is 14/9 which gives us time to sort bottles and to give them some settling time after transport.

    Sabsosa 2008

Just a quick update fo some info about the SABSOSA comp coming up VERY soon. Entries need to be in by 30/8/08. It's great to have some new sponsors involved, ie Beerbelly. They have also agreed to be a drop off point for any entries. This may be easier for people that side of town. I'm sure the...

    Herms Questions

I was lucky enough to score a 10L urn cheaply second hand. It has a fairly sensitive thermostat. I made a copper coil to fit inside, about 3m long which comes half way up the urn's height, ie about the 5L mark. It's connected via hoses to a short, below the surface manifold, to the mash tun. It...

    Ss Braid Hopscreen

I have had success with a SS braid screen in my keg shaped kettle. I use a 30cm length attached to an elbow angled to the bottom of the kettle, but near the outside of it and the braid curved around the edge. The domed bottom, waiting10min, whirpooling and using hop flowers means that the...

    The Australian National Homebrewing Conference

I feel like I've just won the lottery jackpot! After following this thread to the ANHC website to find out the latest news, I found out I was part of it. To say I'm stoked is an understatement! I'm going into immediate training. Many thanks to Andy and the committee for the package. You have...

    Cooper's Yeast

I washed some of the yeast cake from a previous brew and stored it under cooled boiled water and am using it today in a pale ale using cascade pellets and NZ styrian goldings flowers from Beerbelly. They smelled great from the packets. It's the first time I've used cascade hops, so I'm not sure...

    Coopers Pale Ale Yeast Temp

Very safe temp is 18 deg. This is hard to maintain in summer without some sort of temp control. It can get away from you easily. I have had very good results at this temp without any sugar in the recipe as the yeast doesn't give up on any available fermentables, so you still get a dryish finish...

Australian Amateur Brewing Championship 2007 Summary & Full Result

Thanks Ray and the organising committee for all your time and effort. I received my certificate and judging sheets in the post today. Luckily the posty was gentle with them. The judging sheets were well set out and the comments honest and thoughtfully written. The certificate was well...
