Hey denimglen How about running a pc fan and 12V power supply from a double adaptor on the cool side of your fermentation freezer. This way it will run at the same time as the freezer is active.

I'd be wary of cutting off the fan blades because I think they help balance the fan. Screwdriver, hammer and a light tap work well for prising the magnets from their hard drive mount.

I've had no problems reculturing yeast from Emersons before, not from the dunkelweiss but from the hefeweizen and others. Should work fine, just make sure you give the starter a bit of time and build it up so there's enough yeast. Otherwise you can get liquid yeasts from Ross. No problems...
