    Cascade Cans @ Coles

Alby, based on my experience with the Porter bought from the same Coles, the yeast is probably dodgy... drop in to the home brew shop and maybe grab a Safale yeast (assuming you're brewing at ale temps?) He's just started getting the Saf yeasts in which is great... I haven't tried a toucan...

    Hydrometer Mishap

Personally, I can't see the problem with wasting 200-300ml of wort from a 23l batch... just use a tall glass or jar for today

Any Idea What Effect A Few 'maltesers' Will Have On Og?

Yeah, as mentioned - this was an experiment to see how things turn out at that temp. I normally use aircon to bring the temp down to around 21, but it's on the blink at the moment. I have had success at 28deg with Ginger beer and Dark Ale in the past. cheers

Any Idea What Effect A Few 'maltesers' Will Have On Og?

Hi All, Have a Morgans Stockmans Draught in the fermenter at the moment. I mixed it up with an Ultra mix (something like 250g Dex, 5000g LDME, 250g Maltodextrin) and added about 150g extra Dex to the mix - to approx 22-22.5l When I mixed it all up, there were quite a few malt clumps in the mix...

What To Do With Toohey's Dark Ale?

Cheers - I'm not sure if the yeast will still be viable given how old it is, but will give that a go with one of the cans.

What To Do With Toohey's Dark Ale?

As per the thread title... picked up a couple of cans of Tooheys Dark Ale pretty close to the Best Before date for $1.50 each at the local Coles. At that price I figured worst case scenario they'd be a couple of reasonably priced door-stops. Any thoughts on whether it's worth grabbing some...

    Cascade Cans @ Coles

I tried the Cascade Chocolate Mahogany Porter from Coles recently, and not sure if it was me or the kit, but... after fermenting for over 2 weeks (most of my brews are finished in 1 week, but this one was only down to 1020 after about 9 days, then down to about 1012 after 14) carbonating and...

    Beer Wont Carb

Not doubting your judgement of the guy at the HBS, but I use one of those plastic "picnic taps" with only an inch or two of hose between the disconnect and the tap, and have found that 10kpa or less is the perfect pouring pressure for me. I had been thinking my beer was overcarbed when trying...

Dry Hopping A Coopers Pale Ale

I've recently done a CPA with US-05, Malthouse Ultra (from memory it's mostly LDME, with some Dextrose and Corn Sugar), and a teabag of Saaz hops... Nothing like CPA, but it tastes alright to me... I like the extra bitterness and dryer finish than the standard CPA. I overcarbed it a bit at...
