    Oats

Not sure if you follow it but the The Craft Beer Channel on youtube.. I know its Poms but still very good. They home brewed version of East Coast IPA which Gipsy Hill did http://thecraftbeerchannel.com/gipsy-hill-drifter-east-coast-ipa-recipe/ I requires hopping during fermentation, beginning...

    Oats

Thanks for the tips, I buy hops and use them usually within the week, so I am guessing its not that. I usually sparge at 75 so may drop that down. I also just got a ph meter so will check my next brew. But I am not putting oats in.. the cost of brewing these with almost 600g hops means its an...

    Oats

I have been brewing now for 2 years only AG, mostly successful but with a few that have gone straight down the plughole. I recently have been trying the East Coast IPA style and my first attempt also was a failure. It seems every time I use oats in my grain bill I get this really stringent...

    Hop Spider utilisation

I have found that with larger hop bills and the spider you end up with an almost solid mass of hops in the bottom half of the spider. I am not sure how well the wort penetrates this even with moving it around the kettle. Commerical breweries seem to let the hops roam free so I will try. it just...

    Hop Spider utilisation

was dry hopped for 6 days they were in stainess steel hop balls dropped in I find I need 2 as they expand. I think for my next brew I will just drop in hops in the boil and dry hop, no spider or hop balls will just try to syphon carefully to ensure I only get clear beer into the bottling bucket

I got cold-break in my keg. Best way to filter it out?

lol.. they are keepers!!! I have read about this http://www.whitelabs.com/other-products/wln4000-clarity-ferm-brewers-clarex you put it in with the yeast and it inhibits the construction of polyphenols and proteins which can cause chill haze, being a bottler I havent had such issues but it...

    Hop in a bag?

I prefer the hop spider http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-14-35cm-Stainless-Steel-Hop-Spider-Home-Brew-Beer-Hop-Filter-/291303476641?hash=item43d30a4da1:g:Ln8AAOSwwbdWMavL I used to use the nylon bags and during boil I would still get some hop sediment coming through, it depends on the gauge of...

    Possible contamination

I did taste a sample and I couldnt detect any off flavours, but I am one of those people who cant really taste subtle flavours. Its in bottles now so I guess in about 3 weeks I will find out one way or another. Thanks everyone for contributing

    Possible contamination

didnt take any sorry.. was too occupied trying to figure out what was going on plus last minute sanitising of another fermentor and all the other bits and pieces. its in bottles now so in about 2-3 weeks I guess all will be revealed

    Possible contamination

dont know, I would think after that length of time that there shouldnt be much residual CO2, my beers typically go mental for 4-5 days then they are pretty much done. I havent seen this before and I have brewed 20 batches now. Just worried that I have 19L of beer that will end up down the sink!!!

    Possible contamination

I brewed an IPA 3 weeks back and I had racked to secondary 10 days ago. I noticed that during primary there was fermentation activity after 7 days which is unusual for me with IPAs I always make a starter, measure gravity of the starter wort and I have O2 tank so I can aerate it and I ensure...

    Gas burner

Be sure to also purchase a chimney sweeps brush as you will need it to clean the 1 inch of soot on the bottom after 60 min under the Aussie 3 ring burner. I really dont know why LPG is used here. my back garden looks like a scene from Oliver Twist once I am done with the boil and trying to clean up

    BIAB newbie

According to what I have heard (and has been repeated by others more knowledgeable than me) See Michael Dawson above, squeezing can release tannins but I cant back that statement up so if it works for you go for it.

    BIAB newbie

I am new member to this forum but having been down the BIAB route I am happy to give my 2cents worth. I actually never did extract brewing and went straight to all grain just wanted to start out making beer the way that it was originally produced. I got a 40l kettle and started doing BIAB about...
