Coopers premium yeast slow to start

If you can see condensation on the inside of the lid, that generally tells me it's off and running. I wouldn't be too worried about taking the lid off to have a peek. Fermenters sometimes don't seal properly. Back when I was a kid, my Dad used to brew in a plastic rubbish bin covered by a clean...

    Mallokup Malt

I used this malt today for the first time today. I BIAB. For its weight it seemed to have a smaller volume when squeezing the bag. I have no idea what means if anything. It had no unique qualities that jumped out at me. Tasted ok. I do admire them having a go in what I'm sure is a tough market...

2 kids low time Pale Ale

What is the point of wasting 60 minutes of an energy source for a can and dme? Dry hop. Hang on, I'm on a work call.

    Welder suggestions

The Dogs? I've got a lot of respect for the good old "Scraggers". But you're right. What's happened to this place? Everyone stays indoors.

Aperol or Apritzo Spritz Recipe Using Cask Wine (From Aldi) (New Aperol Impressence Essence)

I'm sure if I drank the Aperol Spritz it would no doubt give me "The Aperol Spritz".

Help - started first brew but hydrometer broken

I think we all remember the starting off brewing period. The absolute feeling that we were stuffing things up and it will all turn out bad. Lucky you're in a big city and can just go and buy another hydrometer or 2. Or in you are a real klutz, buy a hydrometer factory. If I had to brew without a...

    Ginger beer stopped doing anything?

It's always wise to be patient. I've never made ginger beer, but I used ec-1118 to make some awful ciders years ago. Take a hydrometer reading if curiosity gets the better of you. That champayne yeast can be a real "zombie".

What Are The Best Books For Homebrewers?

Yeah, he went alright Keith Dunstan. He started "The Anti-Football League" if I remember correctly and wrote "A Place in the Sun'. Do you remember the square football? Sometimes I think the past generations' sense of humour has been lost on the fast-food generations. He had a vineyard on the...

    Carbonating Box Wine

I don't know why you'd bother trying to fizz up cheap flat wine. Years ago we got a heap of reasonable Fizz. We put it in the vitamiser to de-fizz it, after which it was much more palatable. The things you do when you're young and dumb eh? Just drink it fast and have a bucket ready. Responsibly...

Good day from New Jersey USA!

The great Groucho Marx said that he wouldn't want to belong to any organization that would accept him as a member. A warm hello to you. It's said G'day in Australia, but who cares about formalities. What beers are you interested in brewing?

    Recipe Help

All of the above. I've found, when bottling lagers, stash them away and don't touch for at least 3 months. It makes a big difference.

Temperature Control after bottling and during long term storage.

Years ago there used to be these things called newspapers. Amazing things they were. You could read what was printed on them and then use them for all sorts of stuff. Stuff being the operative word. Wrap your bottles up, put them in what ever box you store them in and stuff more newspaper around...

    Good old Coopers Yeast

I do live close to a couple of bottle shops. Coopers Sparkling Ale is OK beer, but I only really wanted 6 for the yeast. I think it was better years ago, but then again, wasn't everything?

    Good old Coopers Yeast

I couldn't leave beer to settle for a week in the fridge. I walked home with a 6pack from the bottle-shop the other day. My starter began soon as I got home. I sanitise around the cap and the opener, pour into a glass, leaving yeast in the bottom and reseal with a new cap. When I've got 6, I let...

    Good old Coopers Yeast

I've been at this caper for many years now and just saw what WhiteLabs want us to pay for their yeast. I've had a go at all sorts of stuff and have more often than not used US-05 for it's convenience and reliability in ales. Then I twigged about what I've done so many times. Buy a 6-pack, enjoy...

    Bad batches or my mistake?

If you're using unsanitised rain-water, then it's really just good luck that any of your brews are not infected. Get up on your roof and lick the surfaces were the birds party up. See if you get crook.(joking) It's easy to sanitise water. Get it up to temperature and cube it.
