    Newcastle Mead catchup

I'm currently organizing a quarterly mead catchup in the Newcastle area, the first meet of 2018 is penciled in for March. For anyone around the Newcastle/Central Coast/Hunter area who's brewed a mead in the past and is interested in chatting all things honey, let me know and I'll send over some...

    Small batch racking

I ended up finding a PET bottle lid that perfectly fits my bottling wand which is a bonus! So I'm going with the plan of flushing a PET bottle with CO2, rack using a hose and then throw on the lid + bottle wand, invert the PET bottle, cut a hole in the bottle for airflow and then bottle away!

    Force carbing partially full kegs

For a standard full 19L keg I use the Ross method to carb it, goes great and no issues. However I'm currently doing some experimental 4L batches (mainly mead) and carbing these up in the 19L kegs, so a lot of head space. The Ross method of 40psi doesn't work and leaves the mead over carbed...

    Small batch racking

A friend and I are looking to make up 12 small batch meads, each using the same process/yeast/temp etc, and put a different honey variety in each (to really understand what each honey variety brings to the table). To keep costs down, we're looking to make 1L batches of each, and take a few other...

    Cold Plate Jockey Box

Looks the goods mate, any feedback so far? Are the FC taps worth the extra? Also what's the reason behind the wheels, you plan on moving it about when its full of ice?

Extra Special Brewers 2016 Home Brew Competition

I'm pretty chuffed with the 1st place I got for my Best Bitter, although I have no delusions of grandeur with my skills (my all grain ESB did average). My winning Best Bitter was just a fresh wort kit from the Brew Shop, fermented in a no chill cube in my bar fridge. Now to see if my AG skills...

Fermenting In Cube - Forcing Expansion To Create Head Space

Cheers mants. There was some minimal pressure in the cube so I just turned back until I heard the pressure escape (at the 1/2 turn mark), and then tightened slightly. I might turn it another turn or so, so its on but not restrictive. Cheers

Fermenting In Cube - Forcing Expansion To Create Head Space

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but couldn't find the answer anywhere else and its related. I've always used glad wrap to cover a cube when fermenting, but have decided to try out just turning back the cube lid instead (as Beer4U mentioned above). Any suggestions on how much to notch batch...

Tips for a low alcohol beer

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but what is the reason behind a quicker 30 min mash? How does the shorter mash affect the beer? I'm guessing a quicker mash means less conversion of complex sugars into simple sugars, so a beer with more body (similar affect to mashing high temp)? Cheers

    Moving fermented wort

Thanks for the idea SE I hadn't seen that post before, I've got a few english ales I plan on having so that could work a treat :)

    Moving fermented wort

Agreed the easiest option would be to bottle at theirs, but then they'll be inclined to help. As mentioned no one likes to bottle so I'm happy to take this on by myself

    Moving fermented wort

I've got my wedding next year and plan on asking a few mates to help brew some beer for it. I'll pay for the grain and ideally if they can brew and ferment it, and then I'll bottle it all (as thats the sucky part of the job and I'm happy to take it on). My mates all live in close suburbs, so my...

I'm also keen to try my hand at growing hops next year if there are any rhizomes going in Sydney!

    Bottling Mead

An old thread, but I thought I'd post here anyway to keep it all in the same area. I'm looking to bottle a mead for my wedding next year, a wedding favor kind of thing. Would bottling mead in a small bottle (say 150-200ml) work? My initial thoughts are it'd be hard to find a good seal, and also...

    BOMM style Meads

Thanks for the writeup Jewwie. What tastes are you getting from the mead that make you think its the Fermaid O? Also what temps are you fermenting at? Is there anything in the BOMM process you didnt follow, such as the CO2 venting?
