Fermentation Fridge > Heat Pad/Belt Safe to use?

I've found that the heat pad rarely comes on in a fridge, even in this weather. Currently I have a brown ale, day 3 of fermentation and the temp hasn't budged from 19C, even though its gotten down to 4C last night and the fridge is outside. Usually the heatpad is plugged in but this time I...

    Brewing supplies Adelaide Hills

You'll probably find joining the BA forums to be pretty beneficial too, if you want to engage in the social side of brewing (case swaps, monthly brewing club, etc, etc). Not to mention the bulk buys (often organised by Nige), excellent advice and general awesomeness of the other Adelaide...

    A Different Stc1000 Question

yeah I cant be fucked with people who dish out personal abuse either mate. Apparently questioning The Big Nath warranted abuse? I'll be sure to keep it in mind before I dare to question you again. peace out and thanks to the PMs from people who thought Big Nath and yobs behaviour was...

    A Different Stc1000 Question

What are you getting at exactly then? So far you've made a claim but I've seen nothing to back it up. So please, rather than confusing the issue, simply supply some evidence for your claims. Please dont launch into a tirade of abuse this time, I'm not looking for a tantrum, just curious to...

    A Different Stc1000 Question

If you connect all your earths (power in and power out) you dont need the fuse, that's what I was getting at, just in case that wasnt clear. Yob - They are 15A (possibly higher), so rated higher than necessary - I work in a foundary, pretty sure the sparkies here would not be using anything...

    A Different Stc1000 Question

Its not necessary if you have connected all of your earths together. US only have 2-pin sockets, no earth, hence the extra protection in the wiring diagram.

    A Different Stc1000 Question

The "No ******* Way" were actually yobs words...you were simply 100% certain that my method was incorrect. A bit more polite, granted, but still fairly arrogant, hence the response. If there's a reason why it shouldnt be wired up this way, then by all means show me the info. I purchased...

    A Different Stc1000 Question

I didnt go through Jaycar, too expensive. I went through a smaller local supplier in Adelaide, was about half the cost. Wine list is starting to look good. I have about 80 odd bottles that are worth cellaring, though not having ideal cellaring conditions I can only really hold them for half...

    A Different Stc1000 Question

But apparently there is "No ******* Way" its right? Big Nath and Yob are 100% sure on that! Anyway - here's some stupidly bad pictures of the finished product that cant possibly work or be correct: Note to self - when filing out the hole for the STC-100, put some cardboard down.....got a...

    A Different Stc1000 Question

I'm 100% sure there's more than one way to skin a cat. So who's 100% sureness is correct? Not yours. I have wired this up as per the diagram on the back of the STC-100. I have wired up 2 others the same way. This one has been going strong for almost 2 years now. Here's another dumbed down...

    A Different Stc1000 Question

For those who might be confused about the wiring diagram, this is what it translates to: It really is a piece of piss

Dry Hopping Post-fermentation: Will It Do Anything?

grassiness comes from the amount you use and the time you dry hop in my experience and has little to do with post/pre fermentation, though adding pre FG will certainly mellow the whole lot out. I've found the freshest aroma comes from additions post fermentation, if you are getting grassiness...

Whats The Worst Beer You've Ever Tried?

I'd suggest it was probably a bad bottle/pack...normally a pretty good beer, not the most exciting, but very very drinkable. I had a Swell Beer when they first came out, definately off, metallic taste. I've also had a White Rabbit that was off and tasted similar. Probably came down to poor...

Fit 4mm Id Line On 6mm Regulator Barb

Needle nose pliers work well - heat up as much as you can using a hairdryer or boiling water, insert pliers, pull handles out to stretch. Works a treat. Generally I get bigger ID for gas though and go John Guest fittings wherever possible

    Storing Bulk Buy Grain

I used to do that, thinking it would be fine. Got away with it for about 6 months. Eventually the mice came though. Put them in plastic bins, but the mice werent fooled, they knew grain was in there and proceeded to chew through the plastic! They never quite made it through, I laid posion...

    Aussie Bush Ale

The Woolshed Brewery make a dark beer with roasted wattleseed. Not sure where in the process it is added, but perhaps send them an email? From the website: "In August 2011 we released out second brew 'Judas the Dark'. Our dark ale is brewed with locally grown native roasted wattleseed and has...

Whats The Size Of You Brew Pot

Just some thoughts on this......you have a huge supply of recyclable water. Why not use a pump and a plate chiller and recirc back into your pool? Surely that would be quicker than your current method, if cooling quickly is a priority? Perhaps not, maybe cubes in the pool is the best method...

    Temperature For Pitching Yeast

Gotcha...... Either way, it seems about right for me and it sounds like you agree - certainly doesnt need any more sweetening. The OP may not agree considering he was aiming for 14% ABV OR a ******* sweet ginger beer with a tonne of residual sugar, which clearly isnt the way to get sweetness...

Whats The Size Of You Brew Pot

I'd still call it No Chill. You can call it Slow Chill if you like ;) Hot for as long as possible? I'd disagree with that. My cubes are sanitised prior to putting anything in them, I dont rely on wort which may or may not be hot enough to kill everything, to do my sanitisation. Generally...

    Mclaren Vale Ipa - Wow

hoping they release it in the main lineup eventually. If you see a Vale Ale tap with EXP written on it, jump on it, so far the 2 I have tried (Stout and Wheat) have been crackers and far more interesting than the main lineup.
