    No-chill - ditch the trub?

I used to obsess about having clear wort into the fermenter. I don't bother now and have noticed no difference in my beers. If I plan to reuse yeast then I will try to keep the trub out. In terms of reward vs effort I can't see the point of obsessing about trub too much.

    AHB Biggest Loser Challenge!

The fasting or 5.2 diet is working for me. Eat what you normally eat for 5 days (without going overboard) and on fasting days restrict yoursef to 600 calories. No beer on those days of course. Fasting appears to have some health benefits which is why I do it, the weight loss is a bonus. Makes...

    Controlling a Brown Pump

Thats the dimmer I use. Works fine. You will need one if you want to control the flow. If you run the pump at full speed it's way too fast for my system Iv'e burnt out a couple of them from my own stupidity but for $3.68 wasn't too worried. As to clamping the outflow, my understanding is it's...

    Purchasing 50l Braumeister

Just bought a 20l. To be honest I would marry mine if it were legal. The advantages are previously well recorded around here. My main issue currently with small children is I have little time to brew and the brewing day tends to be fragmented. That is I will get up early, start the mash. Let...

    Safale Us-05 V Wyeast 1056

Digging up an old thread. Any more opinions on this? When I first started brewing I used the US05. Moved to Wyeast 1056 and seemed to get better results (cleaner) but in saying that my brewing and attention to fermentation also improved. Jamil reckons that the dried attributes a "peachy"...

    Us Retailers

More Beer- Have used them a few times. I purchased a valve for the Bernzomatic O2 cylinder where the valve had been bent and unusable. They Initially refunded the money without my consent and I was down the considerable postage cost. After some emailing they agreed to provide me with a...

    Kitesurfing

Started in 2007. I was living in Port Macquarie at the time and learnt on a twin tip in the waves. Which in hindsight was prob the most difficult way to learn. I live in Melbourne so use a twin tip on the bay which is most of my kiting. My parents live in Port Macquarie so when I go home I use...

    Kitesurfing

Yes, It's my second obsession as well as brewing of course. Although arrival of a child has curtailed my ability to get down when the wind is on. It's heaps of fun no doubt, getting more crowded every year. Where are you? Flat water, waves? Edit: just read your post properly, waves then...

    2l Altenmunster Swingtop 'growlers' @ 1st Choice

It's a standard German Pils, from memory it's not as bitter as Bitburger but has a nice noble hop aroma, smells Hallertauish. Get a fresh one and it's all good.

    Grain And Grape Immersion Elements

I can vouch for the G & G model. It cops moderate abuse from me. ie stirring the mash, tapping the side of mash tun etc. 3 years old. I do recall Ross mentioning in another thread that the black type is preferred over the silver coated for boiling wort. not sure why. Over time I have a buildup...

    Little Creatures Next Single Batch

What's the issue with pasteurising? Obviously not an issue with single batches given they are not long on the shelf. Epic pasteurise all their beers which are all awesome. No doubt there are recipe adjustments. Sounds like marketing propaganda. unpasteurised = better
