Using stainless LPG tanks for home brewing?

I've done some further googling and it seems that a few washes with household bleach will get get rid of the smell. I don't think a lit match is good idea. Unless it's one of those 'hold my beer' moments  TIG welding... no problem ;)

Using stainless LPG tanks for home brewing?

Question for anyone with half an idea..... Assuming you could get inside an automotive LPG tank made from stainless steel, could they be scrubbed out sufficiently to be re-used for brewing beer or for kegging? Can you get rid of the smell of the gas? I've seen these used for home made hot water...

Keg newbie questions- something went wrong...

Low temps aren't a problem. Where I am living you need to put beer in the fridge to warm it up at this time of the year....

Keg newbie questions- something went wrong...

Thanks for the replies so far. Looks like I need to be more patient! I am reluctant to shorten the dip tubes, it would mean I miss out on another glass :D This was suggested by a guy at a home brew shop... it probably works for him. By 'gelatine' do you mean finings, Hairydog? Many moons...

Keg newbie questions- something went wrong...

After many years I have filled my first kegs. I've been using King Browns for decades and it is about time I stepped up to draught beer. Of course, I wanted to try it out straight away! I followed the instructions for forced carbonation, and after a few hours I connected up the Pluto gun and...

    Woolworths Canning The Cans?

Further more, the ACCC is a taxpayer funded government authority which is meant to stop the battler being consumed by big business and to increase competition in the marketplace. As a taxpayer, I expect them to do their job. As I have subcontracted the management of this country to the...

    Woolworths Canning The Cans?

I used to buy more than my quota to keep the stuff on the shelves. Obviously I was the only one. The staff might quote 'poor sales' but you don't have to mention what product was selling poorly... especially now that the 'Big Two' are introducing their own generic brand liquor into their...

    Woolworths Canning The Cans?

My thoughts exactly as I wandered down the aisle at my local Safeway... five cans of various brands left and confirmation from one of the shelf fillers that the product lines had been deleted. At the other end of the same aisle you can walk straight into Safeway Liquor. I thought Coles were...

    Using Light Dry Malt

Swampy The POR in lager does make for a bitter taste but I like it. One might use a cliche - like an angel pissed on my tongue! The first couple of brews used fresh hops which I found growing on our new block. I suspect they are POR but I can't be sure. Believe it or not they produce a more...

    Using Light Dry Malt

Alcohol content- if it's around the usual 5% I'm more than happy. It's been more than 20 years since I made 'get pissed fast lager' with alcohol content approaching 15%, but I was barely an adult back then. If using two types of hops I will boil them in seperate pots fo 90 minutes, strain the...

    Have I Cracked It

Quote: 'Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world.' Wilhelm Kaiser Well done on your triumph. It is not easy trying to get a positive comment from a creature that is obsessed with complaining... However, one must be careful not to make it too good or there will be none left...

    Using Light Dry Malt

Hi y'all, I have a question about LDM. The helpful guys at Grain & Grape did print out a recipe but it has been misplaced. Question is, if I am using LDM do I delete 1 gram of dextrose for every gram of LDM because this replaces the fermentable dextrose? Will this give me roughly the same...

    Saflager 23 Yeast Starter Question

Or just make a 23 litre brew and reuse the yeast cake? My last 23 litre brew took three weeks with Saflager 23. Sadly I'm running out of winter, and the cold won't last forever!! I was averaging about 11 degrees in the fermenter in early July without heating or cooling. I might just go get a...

    Saflager 23 Yeast Starter Question

It's time for a 200 litre lager brew (yes it's true 200 litres). Not megaswill either, will be using half dex half sugar (roughly) Hallertau hop pellets (boiled appropriately) and nine cans of Tooheys lager goo, according to a recipe created for this purpose by the guys at Grain and Grape...

    Using Hop Pellets

Thanks for that. I was never really convinced that sugar was that bad, I do tend to use a little more than a kilo per can but never have had the cider taste unless I was making 'get pissed fast lager' when I was younger and stupider (say 20 years ago) with alcohol getting close to the 15% mark...

    Using Hop Pellets

    1) The Cascade kits are no where near close to code even after sitting on my shelf for 12 months. I don't think Coles wanted to sell them any more. 2) If I had been sensible enought to enquire as to their quality on AHB forum maybe I would have thought twice before buying them. Now I have them...

    Using Hop Pellets

I need to know from my esteemed fellow brewers a little bit about hop pellets. I have purchased some POR pellets, two packets of 25gm each. Are there any recommendations of how many I might add to a 23 litre brew? I am leaning towards boiling them, if so how long for? I have read a few...

    Using Fresh Hops

I have just concocted my most elaborate brew yet: Cascade Golden Harvest lager goo 15 grams 'Kinglake' hops 1 kg Coopers Dextrose 0.25 kg Coopers brewing sugar Saflager 23 yeast Starting SG 1.036 I made two fermenters full, each with the same mix. A massive departure from my usual 44 gallon...
