    Good Mash Tun Cooler

G'day. As the description states, I'm trying to decide on a cylidrical drink cooler to use as a mash tun. I found the "Keep Cold" 36L cooler at BCF and wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts on it or have have any experiences. Cheers!

    First Time Kegger

G'day All! I' haven't been on in awhile, in fact my brewing has been at a standstill for the last few months. I'm back though, and to ring in the occasion I went down to Ross's shop and gave him a bunch of money for some kegging gear. I'm quite excited about it and have a brew to add bubbles to...

    Kit Question - Cooper's Pilsner

Posted this in the wrong place previously.... Hello Everyone. Been awhile since I've been on. I'm still an extract brewer with a keen interest in starting into AG. I did pickup two cans of the above because something about them caught my eye. Maybe they were just pretty. Anyway... What I don't...

    Kit Question - Cooper's Pilsner

Hello Everyone. Been awhile since I've been on. I'm still an extract brewer with a keen interest in starting into AG. I did pickup two cans of the above because something about them caught my eye. Maybe they were just pretty. Anyway... What I don't have a lot of experience in is spicing up kits...

    Flavouring Hop Time

G'day! I've got a recipe for an amber ale that calls for Mt. Hood Hops at 7.0% to be dropped in at 30mins of a 60 minutes boil. The Mt. Hood hops I have are 5.2. Now, based on the fact that these hops are for flavouring, I won't need to use more to compensate for the lower AA, will I??? Thanks...

    The Keg Conspiracy

I've heard all sorts of silly stories about 50l kegs and ownership issues. I can't see a reason that someone COULD NOT own a 50l keg. Am I right? And if so, where the hell can I get hold of one or two. I want to convert one for use when I finally make the transition over to all grain. Thanks...

    Chilling Before Bottling

G'day! I've overnight chilled an extract batch of stout prior to bottling tonight. Using Beersmith, and reading it in other places I've seen that the amount of priming sugar used for a given quantity of brew is lessened if the temperature of the beer is decreased. When they talk about...

    Immersion Chiller Wanted!

G'day Brewers, I tried my first full boil (extract) tonight, and everything went great right up until I needed to chill the brew. I tried frozen/sanitized coke bottles, and though they work SLOWLY, i worry about infection. If any of you have an immersion chiller free for sale at a good price...

    Full Wort Boil - Extract!?

I'm planning to make an Irish Red style extract brew tonight and figured since I have Rambo and a 40L Alum brewpot I might try going with a full boil. I've read a few things here and there, but nothing cements my resolve better than running by my fellow brewers on AHB. Any thoughts??? I believe...

    Bottle Wanted! Brisbane Area

Hello Brewers! I'm looking for bottles for my wee little home brewing operation and am mostly interested in swing-top, European style bottles (Groslch). I'll take any nice bottles that are amber, green, heavy, or ornate. If you've got crates of bottles that you don't want (including Aussie...

    Liquorice Extract And Stout?

I heard it said that a liquorice extract goes good in a Stout. Well, I'm doing a hybrid kit brew using Morgan's Mulloy's Irish Stout as a base and need to know at what point during the boil (or after) should I add the liquorice extract, and how much. Brewcraft (the extract's namesake) says use...

    Pitching Duds

I'm loving this site. Never used a forum before now and I can't believe how easy it is to get all kinds of good brewing tips from pros. Ok, enough kissing arse... So I pitched 2.5 ounces of yeast cake from my last brew (IPA) into my new batch (random, generic 1.055 sparkling ale) at around 2am...

    Using Yeast Slurry

Hello Everyone. I've been reading too many books, and the most recent of those are "How to Brew" and "Designing Great Beer." I've found that I might be pitching far too little yeast just using the little packets, and my IPA may be an example of that. It fermented out fairly well, I think 73%...

    "pale" Or "light"

Hello Again, I've been scouring the recipes on a couple of books ("How to Brew" and the "Joy of Home Brewing") and have come across many extract recipes calling for "Pale" liquid malt extract. Given that the majority of recipes ask for "Light" LME, I'm thinking the pale must be something...

    Dirty Beer, High Gravity

Hello. I am particularly new to brewing. I have made an attempt at an IPA from John Palmer's book "How to Brew" and am a bit worried about the results. It's been in the fermentor about 10 days now and is still very cloudy. I got a reading on the hydro at 1.023, and there were lots of bit in the...
