Rays outdoors burner and free pot offer

I used a 1" speed bore to drill mine, ally is really soft and far far easier to drill than stainless. Drilled through it like timber, smoothed with sandpaper, done.

    Grain volume in mash

I have the 38l pot and do exactly as Kev. Fill up with 30L, which handily is the bottom of the handle rivets. Mash away, raise the bag after mashout and let drain, just before boil top up with ~5 litres of water. My volumes are slightly higher as I lose more to trub and evaporation.

    Perfect, no bolts needed then.

Rays outdoors burner and free pot offer

My basket sat directly on the bottom of the pot, i was worried it would scorch the bag, hence the 1" bolts to keep it up off the bottom. What is holding yours off the bottom to give it a 43mm clearance?? Being able to apply heat directly means you dont have to hoist the bag if you fall shy of...

    Claytons No Chill

Is there a rough time above X temperature for the heat to kill any nasties when no chilling?

Rays outdoors burner and free pot offer

Yep, the stand it comes with is perfect for the 38L pot. All i did was drill a hole in the pot and put in a stainless tap with a weldless bulkhead, and put four bolts in the bottom of the insert so i could apply heat directly to the mash.

This is a fantastic start, very powerful burner, pot great for single batches and the insert is very versatile. For single batches takes around 10 min to reach strike temp and 10 mins to go from mashout to boil. Burner should happily do double and triple batches if you upgrade to a bigger pot.

Rays outdoors burner and free pot offer

Very nice, tempted to get a second for double brewdays :P I put four 1" aluminium standoff bolts in the bottom of my insert, then i put the bag in this. Can apply heat directly without having to hoist the bag, great for step mashing.

Nice find, i use the BCF version of these. Can do 21 litre batches of normal beer no probs, high grav or higher volume with a sparge and/or top-up. Does the pot come with an insert like the BCF ones? Very handy for BIAB.

    Whats In The Glass

What was your hop schedule? What flavours you get coming through? Got some Zythos i need to get through, my latest attempt at an APA with 50/50 zythos and summit was destroyed by the summit. It was created to help address the shortages of Amarillo, Citra, SImcoe. Palisade. Def some columbus in...

    Summit

Tried the APA again now that its carbed up. The strong garlic taste has faded a fair bit, i managed to finish the glass. It still has a very odd taste. If you crushed up some lychees, green grapes and spring onions together you'd just about have it. I'll try a glass every week or two and hope it...

Recultured Coopers Yeast - Smells Strong

I find with my stc set to 18, taped to fermenter the same way as you mention, i get lots of banana. It fades out after a few weeks. I have been doing my aussie ales at 16. Could just be differences in equipment/calibration etc, i find in general i like to ferment things a bit cooler. On a side...

    Summit

Made an apa with summit and zythos, 2011 Yakima, tiny bit for bittering and the rest cube hopped. Tasted awesome in the fermenter, great citrus. Kegged it last night and tried a sample of the leftovers and spat the vile garlic beast it had become out. Cleaning the fermenter it was giving off the...

    G'day from Coffs Harbour

I'd come in and say hi if you did a demo day. Get Stu to bring his gear, I could bring mine and we could do a masterchef style brew off from a random collection of ingredients, coming up with a recipe on the spot.Resulting beers to be consumed at the first meeting!Haha.
