63, started brewing in 1973, before kits were made out of liquid malt. Started playing around with hops and specialty grains a few years ago, went AG last year. Why wait so long? Didn't know about BIAB before then and couldn't afford 3V.

I was never a fan of dark beers and had my first taste of Guiness at the Pig & Whistle in Brisbane, wasn't too impressed. My second Guiness was in the Gravity Bar at the St James Gate brewery in Dublin and I was hooked. You're right Bribie, the closest you will get to the original is in cans...

Merc, Bought the book today and can't wait to give some of those recipes a go. I was telling my daughter, a celiac, about the beer can chicken. She asked whether, cooking with beer, yeast in the beer would pass into the chicken and if so in what quantity. I would presume nil to negligible...

Just checked my BM. Clicked New Recipe. OG 1.046, FG 1.012, ABV 4.52. From memory they were the figures for my last brew. Entered a grain and as soon as I clicked on weight all figures went back to default. Bob

I was just going on something I read here recently. Have tested again 15-20, have got one digital thermometer which has a flat battery and the one I use for brewing is a Candy making thermometer, starts at 40 deg C so not a lot of good here. Original hydrometer appears to be about 6 points...

I just checked it in ice water. Seems to be about 2 points low. I've got another one which is spot on, will use it in future, but that still leaves a 4 point discrepancy.

I BIAB and use Brew Mate to formulate my recipes. I consistently miss both OG and FG by 6 points. I mash at 66 - 68 deg C, mash and boil for 90 mins and do a 10 min mashout at 76 deg C. I would love to have a beer finish around 1.010 - 1.012. I brew in a 40 litre Crown Urn with a concealed...

I do roughly the same, except for the "sometimes months later", and I use a small piece of kneehighs.

I was going to post this last night but got sidetracked by the Tigers/Warriors game. My beer line is 2.48 metres disconnect to tap. I think it is 5mm line but not sure. Is this too short/ I hope not. My fridge only holds 2 kegs, and I seem to have miles of beer line. :blink:

Does anyone else have this problem? The last one or two litres from the keg usually come out big head and no bubbles. Do I need to up the serving pressure as the keg empties? Bob

Or have a Soda Stream bottle on standby. Have to shell out for the adapter to attach it to your regulator though.
