Don't Connect A Secondary Regulator To The Gas Tank!

Or emotional? :o Nah, seriously. I like it when forum members front up with their disaster stories. Everyone learns from each others mistakes. Thanks.

    Just Put A Hobgoblin In

The CYBI podcast interview with the brewer mentioned some Cascade late with the Styrians. I've made the recipe provided. Hard to say if I could even taste the Cascade with the amount of Styrians added and the dark malts. Maybe only a hint but...

A Bit Of Advice On Bottling After Cc'ing

Yeah, I used to pitch only slightly warmer, like 2-4c more than what I'm aiming for and then cool to the desired temp. Now, I'm in the habit of making a good 3.5-4L starter (for a 20L batch) if I'm using a Lager yeast and just pitch it at the desired temp. I only use my fresh wort and not malt...

A Bit Of Advice On Bottling After Cc'ing

Wow! I've never had the Butterscotch experience with any yeast. Maybe I've been lucky. But I've had a few DMS problems so that's another story... After a cold conditioning period, I find a Lager yeast will take a while to rouse and carbonate. It could take a week or two.

Pale Beers = Vegetal Flavours From Hop Breakdown Or Dms?

+1. I have the same motto in life now. The answer is yes!

Pale Beers = Vegetal Flavours From Hop Breakdown Or Dms?

I wouldn't have thought 250g of Carapils would leave any noticeable taste when combined with kits and bits. Is it a real "Corn" taste or just a strong off (undesirable) yeast ester flavour due to the high temp? I've had this with US-05 in the heat of summer without temp control.

Pale Beers = Vegetal Flavours From Hop Breakdown Or Dms?

Ha ha, last time I had suspected DMS I did drink it up and grit my teeth. Not sure if I can do it this time...

Pale Beers = Vegetal Flavours From Hop Breakdown Or Dms?

Now that my beer is carbonated I can really taste that "Corn" flavour. Up front the beer is good, which is a shame... :(

Pale Beers = Vegetal Flavours From Hop Breakdown Or Dms?

I'm guessing a strong boil then? Ok, thanks. I will be more vigilant in achieving a strong boil and go back to 90mins from now on. I think that was the likely cause.

Pale Beers = Vegetal Flavours From Hop Breakdown Or Dms?

Wow, I filtered and kegged a Bright Ale clone on Saturday using US-05. Had a taste test last night. I got a taste of what I think is DMS. Its pretty much how you described it in your original post for this topic. Its in the finish, rounded but not sharp. I've had this taste once before in a...

    Dry Hopping After Carbing

:icon_offtopic: Out of interest, if you've filtered the beer into the keg and then tea ball the hops, will it add a haze of some kind?

    Recipe Ideas Please

Given the hops you have, you're probably looking at an American IPA. I just chucked your stuff in IanH's kit spreadsheet. May need to add some more malt (dried or liquid) and/or Dex to get the Alcohol up a little. I couldn't comment on flavour though. Never combined those kits before. Do a...

    Cheap Digital Thermo @ Jaycar

I just had a problem with my existing thermometer on Sunday. Got my strike water sorted, went and got my grain. Measured again, all good. Added grain and my temp went up. WTF? Got all confused, added a little cold to bring it down a little. Then thought I better check some tap...

Max Batch Size For 30l Fermenter?

I've understood certain yeasts and high temps would be a problem but hadn't really thought about the gravity part. Thanks. I've got some tubing and a bottle that I'll use as a fart/shart (blow off) tube.

Max Batch Size For 30l Fermenter?

Hi All. What's the biggest batch size you've fermented in a 30L fermenter? I'm thinking of upping my batch size from 23L std to some more, say 27L?

    Biab (getting Around Heating Limitations)

Hey there stillinrehab. How's things in the Tron? Nice to see you moving to AG. I was still on Kits when I lived there... Check out my Avatar, you should see a familiar sight. +1. You will need to work out what the water to grain ratio depending on your recipe. But for...

    Hop Sock

I've always used one for pellets. A little less trub after the boil and I give it a squeeze when I remove it prior to cubing to get out all the wort.
