    Excesive Trub From Biab

I BIAB in a 40L Urn. I brew 20L batches and estimate my trub at 3L in my calcs. I've never done any other AG brewing technique so couldn't compare. I used to worry about the trub collecting in my Jerry Can but not now. Its all good. One other thing, I've always used a Hop sock so I don't...

Southern Cross / Wai-iti In An Ale

I'd agree. The intensity is lower than the American hops and you should use a little more. I've found it's about 1.5:1 gms of Wai-iti over your C hops. I will say that I love Wai-iti. It's the primary hop in my black IPA.

    RecipeDB - All Blacks IPA

Hi Charst I know what you mean about the BIPA spectrum. My view was that I couldn't stomach making a beer that was black without a little dark grain flavour. However, to make the hops pop so it was more American IPA like I didn't want to go too far. So I add a little Pale choc malt which...

Setting Up A Campsite Keg System

I can see there's lots of good options here. But if you're short on time then you could try the Bullet Bin solution. Its not flash like the fully kitted up drain pipe, but its cheap, easy, and quick... (just like me  ) I found the insulation worked a treat...

    Tipping In The Usa

Wow good timing on this post! I'm off to the US in a few weeks. Had forgotten all about tipping. Will be nice going there with a strong AUS dollar as opposed to last time (12 years ago) with an NZ Peso.

    Epic Pale Ale Clone

Yeah that was my bad. A typo. I had +26 IBU at the top of the recipe. But it's probably 29-30. So all up 42-45 IBU. I cube hopped that full amount of 100g Cascade. I still think that brew came out as one of the best ever.

    Top 10 Yeasts

American Ales - US-05 (Dry) UK Bitters - Wy1469 Lagers - WLP810 - I don't think I saw anyone else list this one. Also known as San Francisco Lager yeast. This is by far the best lager yeast I have ever used. Great results every time when I ferment at 14c for 5 days and raise it to 17/18c...

    Protein Rests

Yeah figured as much. Just hadn't seen it mentioned. Ok thanks guys I'll give this protein rest a go. Cheers

    Protein Rests

I've read through the posts where others raise the bag for a BIAB in an Urn after the Protein rest while heating. Would there be any detriment caused to the wort (and eventually the beer) by leaving the bag of grain in the urn while heating it to the desired Sach rest temperature? I have a...

    New Setup For A Novice

+99  But seriously, as others have said, we all start out with the same gear and add to it as we go. Its good you can do that since the dollars up front for the stuff I've acquired over the years would be rather significant. Go for it!!!

    How Beer Saved The World

Ha ha, I obtained this show from EZTV a while back. Sat down with the wife for some light "Info-tainment". Yeah... well... the facts were interesting, but the American hyped style of presentation was quite disappointing. Everytime I tell my wife (ask very nicely) that I'm going to brew I just...

RecipeDB - Punkins Cascadian Dark Ale

Good stuff. I've been lurking your other thread as I've also been working on my recipe for this style. I'll put it up after I taste my second iteration which is fermenting now. I added too much pale choc which over powered the hops but damn it made a nice porter! So I'm lowering choc and upping...

AHB Articles: Fermenting Directly in the No-chill Cube

Perhaps a racking cane or something? Would be similar I imagine to bottling from a carboy.

AHB Articles: Fermenting Directly in the No-chill Cube

Assuming you are using a cube or jerry can that is pre-molded for a tap, you can remove the bung and drill a hole (if required) to screw in the standard fermenter tap. Then bottle as normal for example by connecting a standard bottle filler to the tap. Edit: I see you beat my reply.

AHB Articles: Fermenting Directly in the No-chill Cube

Yeah, good stuff. My initial reason for changing to this method, like others, was due to a lack of fridge space since migrating away from bottles to kegs. Fermenting in a cube in my bar fridge is great. I've also been able to fit three cubes in my keg fridge (when it was empty) and ferment...
