    Are my hops Kaput?

From my experience the English varieties have more of a chance to go a bit "hows your father" or cheesy. They seem to have a more loose, more moistureish composition to them. That's a word. most of the other varieties are fairly robust. That said I've got 2-3 yr old hops that were given to me...

    Gladwrap instead of airlock

Go to costco "evil us enterprise similar to Woolworth's, coles ect" and get the extra wide 60cm glad wrap. So much more real estate to unravel.

    StarSan V's SCOBY/Kombucha

Starsan's just going sanitize what you apply it to; eg your ferment vessel. If used in correct dosage, application ect. What cultures you add to you liquid afterwards would have very little effect if any from the residue. "water, milk, ginger beer" + according to Google you add bacteria to...

iOS: ibrewmaster 2 vs beersmith 2. Glitches and features

I'd recommend beer smith. I run it on a windows pc and have had zero issues. Often use the cloud feature for storage of recipes as well. The android app has less features but useful just on brew day if you want to use the timer function for hops, mash schedule ect. Not sure I'd bother making...

    Where have they gone?

Agreed but it's changing down in SA. Quite a lot of restaurants I frequent now have some cracking beers on offer.

    Where have they gone?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer We need to amend wiki it's wrong Nothing about AHB! :D It's a point... from your point of view. Despite what you or for that matter I think beer is. Does not change what they "the majority of the world" think beer is. The post which was just an inverse was so...

    Scorched 15a plug

Dammit, wrong way round. Lucky I'm not an electrician. My length is also just right. Just reaches the brew setup from the shed B)

    Scorched 15a plug

Would rush in current be something to worry about with these components? How long does an amp surge on a 3200w element last for and is that long enough to generate enough heat to be what's occuring? I'm no licensed electrician but I've just got B type circuit breakers on a 16 amp circuit with a...

    Scorched 15a plug

Stupid question but you replaced the plug but is the cord 15amp? Also your plugging it into a rated 15amp outlet? Your looking at a minimum 2.5mm strands of copper wire for 15 amp. Edit; BM 50 specific details; › Heating coil: 3,200W output › Pump: 2x9W › Power supply connection: 230V (fuse...

    Where have they gone?

You won't get any better advice from me sir :D. (Don't take this the wrong way*) but if you want to find my shop.... use the internet search function think it's called Google :D. Dam these new people to the internet. *Massive pun intended. If offended, go to a site sponsor and buy something...

NTC "stc" probes are not wort proof.

Yob I wish it was so but I'm not commenting on just one or two probes failing, it's 5 I think now. :D Nor from the same batch. Not the same style either. The completely coved polyurethane type is still working to this day. The stainless versions are the worst for it. 3yrs is a decent effort I...

    Where have they gone?

Had 3 chicks in the brew store so far. The missus - didn't buy anything! A couple that are into brewing together. And a wife picking up a Christmas present. The rest.... Sausage fest. Fully support woman doing their thing but couldn't care less about going out of my way to target promote it...

    Oh my gush!

NTC "stc" probes are not wort proof.

Howdy, Been using STC probes for some time now. They are usually sold with units that are to be used as aquarium water sensors such as the STC-1000's. I've been using them inside fermenters and inside HERMS "wort liquid" for some time and can now say without a doubt they will fail when used...

    A Common Tragedy

I killed another one last brew day when the wind picked up a "large" Tupperware container and flipped it with the hydro sitting in it. It smashed a whole 6m away from where I left it. Couldn't believe it. I just have a box of 10 set aside for me for this very reason. Down to 6.
