Thanks for the replies guys.
Mark, i am fitting a pump and was going to run the pump as well as the stirrer at the same time, (I should have mention that).
So what you are saying is, not to stir the mash during the sparge, i can see the logic in that.
Would you recommend a spray bar to be used...
Hi folks,
I am in the process of building my new cooker, the aim is the BIAB / basket.
The question is; does any one use a mechanical grain stirrer or something similar? Any pics?
I am thinking of locking the basket and setting up small motor and gearbox (say 5 rpm) on top of the pot and stir...
Hi guys
A few pics of work in progress.

To be added, cooling jackets, stirrer, temp gauges, some electrics, and bits as I make / find them.
Cheers, John

I folks,
Looking to start BIAB brewing after years of kits and bits.
Currently building my new cooker.
Trying to get the best information I can before I get started.

Get your local machine shop / eng shop or even the local TAFe if there is 1 nearby to make it for you, if you are close to me I could knock 1 up for you. Just take the female with so they can use it as a guage. Pretty simple if you have a lathe.
The machine you are looking at looks good, however, it is 15 amp.
From what I read it does not have HF, so TIG aluminium will be bloody hard.
Don't go gas less! Only time I go gas less is when I cannot get the big bottle to where I need to weld and the pony bottle is empty.
TIGS are expensive...

I got done 27 yrs ago (had to think how old is the youngest).
Doc said you need to take it easy for a week or so. Decided to go for a ski the afternoon before (Thurs) with mates and got snipped Fri.
Sat morning felt great, done some work...
Try a company called Triple 9 stainless, they do great work, however, take the bung grease as you will be bent over. What you are looking for is someone who can purge weld. In my younger days I was pretty good, but age and eyesight is working against me. I do my own stuff still but not willing...
What a great post.Just started making a 68 ltr stainless steel pot this week, (3 mm 316), (welded the barrel yesterday, 2 of the fittings tonight, base will go on tomorrow afternoon) I want to do a manual boil this weekend. You have inspired me to take this further. Now I'm on the search for a...
