    Chilling in Summer

I brewed my first lager today. It was well over 30 degrees in the back yard and the tap water was up around 25 degrees. I used my immersion chiller and a pond pump in a bucket of water with frozen water bottles in, but just couldn't get my beer down below about 30 degrees. I gave up in the end...

    Cleaning and Storing Filter Cartridges

Thanks for that. I have mine soaking in a bleach solution at the moment and then plan to flush it out by soaking in water for a couple of days. Will try sodium percarbonate if that doesn't work.

    Cleaning and Storing Filter Cartridges

Hi, Just wondering how those of you who filter your beer clean and store your filter cartridges? I back flush mine and store dry and then rinse with Starsan before using again. But I'm still getting staining on the filter element................ Thanks in advance.

How to filter your house hold tap water for brewing.

Our tap water here is treated bore water and rubbish for brewing. I have good results using a unit similar to this to produce RO water and then dosing the water to suit the style of beer I'm making.

    The Grainfather

Grainfather - Quality Control. I hope the QC on the build is better than it is on the advertising. I notice in this edition of BYO Magazine the advert claims that the Grainfather can hold up to 2lb of grain.................

    Beer and Gas Line

I use 5mm line to Perlick 525's with no flow control and have no foaming issues. I used the spreadsheet above to calculate the required length of line and have never had a problem. If I do want a little more or less head on the beer I just tweak the regulator to suit.

    Grain Mill Motor

Whoops...................... I'd better try again then. Or start looking for a pulley and belt. Edit: Or would something like this work? Or maybe this? which is for the scooter motor. I figure that the scooters don't go flat out all the time. There should be a way to control the speed of...

    First brew with Braumeister

Mashing in at 38 with a small rest at 40 also seems to help with the fluidity of the grain bed. And so lessens the need to stop and stir. I always do this and only stir once. Congratulations on the BM. They are a great bit of kit. Edit: Phat Fingers

    Grain Mill Motor

I've now ordered this power supply which should deliver ten amps. I have a question though. How would I rig a forwards and reverse switch? Is it a case of reversing the polarity to the motor to make it run backwards? As you'll have guessed I'm not the full monty electrically. Edit: A bit...

    Lecterfan SW WA brewery tour

Great write up................. I've done the same tour myself and reckon that Colonial is the pick of the bunch. Closely followed by Bootleg. The Pour House Pub in Dunsborough is also worth a look as it has a huge selection of beers from around the world.
