Keg and beer line hygiene etc.

I work a month on / month off rotation, so disconnect the beer lines and flush through when I leave for work, so every second month. They may also get flushed between kegs, but then again they may not. Edit: I leave the beer disconnects soaking while I'm away. This stops them getting sticky...

    Rainwater? Good or bad

I used to use rain water, but then bought an RO unit. When I dismantled the rain water butt and saw the crap in the bottom I was pleased that I'd switched. And I live out in the sticks and have gutter guard fitted. But to be fair the beer made with rain water was always very good...............

    Wort Chiller Pond Pump Idea

I used to do this, but returning the cooling water to the iced water bucket soon warms it up. Now I have a second immersion chiller that sits in a bucket of iced water. The hose from the tap goes to this first and reduces the temperature of the tap water before it goes into the immersion...

Redds Apple Ale Recipe - Does anyone have one?

The wife has been drinking Redds Apple Ale lately, it's a sort of beer/cider hybrid. The label says "Crisp Like an Apple - Brewed Like a Beer" I only had one sip last night, but would describe the taste as a malty beer, very few if any hops, with apple juice added. I found it quite sweet, so...

If your crush is fine it could also be affecting your efficiency. The general rule seems to be to go for a mill gap of about 1.2 mm. Also are you talking about mash efficiency or brewhouse efficiency? There can be a big difference.

    "Fermostat" Controller

That would be me  It's a great bit of kit that I was lucky enough to pick up second hand. My only slight gripe is that although it can be switched from fahrenheit to celsius, at the moment, you have to program the temperatures in fahrenheit. This is apparently going to be fixed in an...

    Jurien Bay WA - Oktoberfest

Just found out that the Men's Shed in Jurien Bay are having their inaugural Oktoberfest Celebration on the 10th October. Details can be found on their Facebook Page. Looks like a good day out if you're in the area. Or only two hours North of Perth if you want to make a weekend of it.
