i never pitch vials without starters,regardless of age.have allways used mr malty pitching calc.it has never failed me yet,but have never had a vial a month past best b4.to me 10% viable vial is akin to reculturing 2 stubbies worth of cpa,and i allways step up for that,tho my rinsed yeasts that...

Have a tube of white labs that mr malty tells me is 10% viable.would an initial 500ml starter before stepping to 2000ml be the go for a 1045 ale?!

Rinsing the remains is the go mate.wolfy did a post here recently but theres plenty on the subject out there online.for ales,i rinse,obtain 15 to 20ml of clean yeast and then grow it in a 1500ml starter for 24hrs.

the amount of time you spend lobing in here slaging you could brew a few styles yaself

120 will be fine,most manufactures dark crystal are around that range,120 being a sort of generic term for dark crystal malt
