    Copper Tube

Then there is fridge pipe, the new pipe is R410a rated, has heavier walls to cope with the higher pressure of R410a refrigerant. Otherwise the stuff at bunny's is plumbing grade which is good for brewing use.

It was going well untill the pickup tube came off my manifold, i tried to lever it up through a deep grain bed, that's when it died. My old brewers spoon from my first kit snapped while trying to be lazy while pulling an old tap apart.

    Got My Boiler

Just like my HLT. I stripped out all the pipework for the drain, It was all rotten looking brass with lead solder throughout., Replaced with poly fittings, pipe and a ball valve. Used as a kettle twice before deciding to go gas but does a great job as the HLT.

Anyone Using A "heat Pipe" To Cool Fermenter?

Basically the same principle as an old kerosene fridge. Two interconnected bulbs one inside the fridge, the other above the kero flame. bulb is filled with a charge of ammonia or other refrigerant. Flame heats until hot bulb is empty of liquid, pressure rises, refrigerant condenses in cool...

BAsically the salt triggers a change of material state, ie latent heat change. Salt water freezes at a lower temp than fresh water, when salt is added to wet ice, the salt dissolves into a solution that is above its freezing point, to melt the ice into water again requires more heat which it...

    What Water?

I have a pilsner lagering now which is brewed purely from water run through my $10 R/O unit. It took quite a while in primary (about 3 weeks) which i guess is because the water was incredibly soft therefore not many nutrients. I'm keen to see how it turns out.

    Tight Arse Stir Plate

Here's my effort. The fan is from a decommissioned UPS. It's a 240v 45w 180mm. Has no trouble stirring anything! speed is controlled via a 200va dimmer switch. Just need to be carefull about the speed, it will happily rev to over 2000rpm but not before throwing the stir bar. For this reason i...

If Making Your Own Copper Manifold For Mashing,

Mine originally had holes, I got one stuck sparge, now it has slits. I just used a juniour hacksaw and cut slits approx 10 mm apart. runoff is now excellent. No more stuck sparges, even with a 75% wheat grain bill.

A fittings are silver soldered with 1/2" BSP socket weld nipples on the wort in and wort out. Brings wort to within 2-4 degrees of the water temp depending on the rate i...
