    Pump Issues

Yeah, there's an O-ring. Maybe I could try and track down a slightly fatter o-ring.

    Pump Issues

Hey all, I'm using a Nova pump, the smaller version of the Idra which I know some of you use. They are designed the same just smaller, so I was told. I tried my pump once. Damn. Should have invested more time in fitting the tubing and stuff. But apart from the obvious problems of tubes not...

Would Chinese green tea be much different. Thats what I usually drink, and find Japanese tastes a bit whack for me.

    No Sparge Brewing

I think this might be the method I start to use. Easily does mash out step, and is quick. Are there any problems associated with having such a large body of water above the grain, it won't really have an even distrubution of grain to water. Don't know if this matters. People seem to get...

    Northern Brewer

Cool, thats a good database I never really thought that one hop could span both British ales and German lagers. Thanks Doc

    Northern Brewer

Hi, Have been confused for quite some time as to the origin and usages of northern brewer, is it a german or english hop, or both. I've heard it gives a noblish german hop flavour, which seems off base with a english bittering hop. Just need some clarification. Thanks sam

    Distillation

the old man made a red wine from a kit, kits aren't cheap though. about $90 for 23L i might look into buying some grapes when they come into season, brewshops hook you up, hire the press and stuff and give it a shot, depending on price. it would be good to try. i think i just like brewing...

    Hot Rocks

Currently studying geology, never came across the topic of combing rocks and brewing. Shame that, would have been a good lecture. Any igneous rock would be fine, basalt or granite etc.. Unless something special is done by the rock, I suppose you could use a brick or something. Got some...

    Mashout

Thanks for the response SJW, all makes good sense. Regarding my mashtun, yes, it is a SS 50L keg. It has had the entire top cover removed (including the handle top bit), so it resembles a large pot. At the moment (only done 3 brews in it) I use primative insulation, 2 cotton doublebed doona...

    Mashout

Hi, I want to add a mashout step to my program, but am a little confused. Should the HLT water be at 75-82C, or is that the temp that the grain should be at to denature the enzymes? I batch sparge, but have plenty of space in my tun (50L). Could I make my mashout step by adding water to...

    Cleaning Cfc

I use an immersion, and am happy with it. But, CFC's have many advantages, and I think the investment would be worth it, as you'll use it forever. People seem to run their choice of sanitiser through the CFC for a while, I think the hassel is worth it.

    The Kettle Is Complete.....

My fittings are not welded, I use 1/2" fittings and rubber washers. Try having it removable before you get it welded, I really like the fact that I can remove and clean my fittings after each brew. And, so far, I have had no issues with the seals leaking.

    Idra Pump Fittings

Has anyone used a smaller pump successfully? The stats on the Nova are: Maximum LPH: 800 Minimum LPH: 200 Max pumping height: 1.6m $40 + 9 shipping, and I haven't looked around yet. Could I use this thing successfully? I am only using it for short recirulation period then pumping from...

Temps For Different Types Of Beer

Depends on yeast strain. Lager yeasts ferment around 10-13C while most ale yeasts like 18-22C. Chances are that if you have been using kits and the yeast that came with these, it is an ale yeast, so fermenting these at low temps will not work. The lager kits are not really lagers, but a lager...

    Idra Pump Fittings

Hi, Thinking about getting the Idra pump (and I have read about the March pump), but am unsure about fittings for it. It takes 20mm tubing, and I am using 12.5mm tubing which fits all my fittings etc.. Can I easily adapt this 20mm to 12.5mm? Or, would the smaller Nova pump do the job (moving...

    Growing Hops

How do the imported variteties go? I'm planting Pride this season, and was able to get goldings, tettnanger and hallertau, but didn't due to potential differences due to Australian conditions. What differences occur in these hops to their proper locations? If not much changes I might plant...
