    Plastic "brumby" Taps

Another recommendation for the black plastic "Cobra" or "picnic" faucets. Cheap and work well. I used one for about 6 months with no problems. They're pretty damn good little faucets. I've seen a different portable faucet, it came from morebeer, looked something like this: I haven't used...

    Beer Excise Increase

Furthering what bugwan said: Cam's been working really hard on this. I haven't heard much about it recently, but I think they want to get the equivalent of WET, which is an excise break on sales up to $0.5 million per annum (I think). Putting in 6-pack terms, it was something like ~$5 a...

    Pluto Gun Problem.

To stop this from happening, you've got to keep the temp of the gun the same as the rest of the system (the beer). That means putting it in the fridge when not in use. Hopefully that will stop the problem, cause it's a real ****. sam

    Hot Side Aeration

Dave, Another option is ascorbic acid, it should stop potential oxidation in the mash. It's used sometimes in winemaking. I think it might have a bit of a taste, not sure about quantity used. I had a quick googley, some HBer people use it in the mash it seems. Also used as a bottling...

Murrays Nirvana Pale Ale- Now Bottled

Might sound like a good idea, but a small bus full of hyperactive kids isn't much fun. Especially if your a little on the hung-over side. Still, better than walking.

    Making Vegemite

I believe the wash will be important, to get rid of the bitterness. I made some bread using some top-cropped 1007. When I ate the bread, the bitterness came through (it was that oxidised, stuck to the side of the fermenter and brown, type bitterness). I think I've still got a loaf in the...

    What are you brewing?

Brewing an American Brownish Amber, my first AG in Canada. Finishing hops are 2oz of new season Amarillo and Centennial flowers. Its good to be so close to the Yakima Vallley. sam

    Rice Hulls Not Rinsed !

They have a lot of dust, so when you rinse them that all washes out. The dust liquid doesn't taste great, but again, I've used them without rinsing and noticed no ill effects (it was in an estery wheat though). Hopefully it drops out with the yeast or something. Maybe it helps the yeast? :P...

    Making Vegemite

Ok, I'll do it outside, I'm sure my housemates wouldn't appreciate that inside the house. I think Kraft actually used to sell Vegemite here (Canada) but stopped because they didn't want to make another label with english and french on it (or something like that). Thanks for the tips. Coffee...

    Making Vegemite

Ok, so I'm starting to run low on Vegemite, and rather than get my ma to sent more, I thought I might try and make some moonshine Vegemite. I found this info from this guy: Ahh, sweet autolysis. So my process might go something like this. - Wash spent yeast - Heat yeast in a double boiler...

    Mac's Sassy Red

Hard grain bill to get spot on. I think the roast barley will give a better red colour than chocolate, so I'd keep it in. That should take care of most of your red, with the crystals giving a bit, but mostly flavour. Might back off on the amber a bit though. Could end up overly malty. That...

    Aeration

Yeah, industrial grade is fine. Like Batz says, they come from the same source. They're just different bottles, medical for hospitals and geezers who need air, and industrial for burning stuff. Same oxygen. I used to use industrial grade with a filter (just because I had one). sam

    Trent In Canada

I think one of the best things in Canada is the abundant, cheap fresh Unibroue beer. La Fin Du Monde is a very tasty beer, maybe a little too tasty for all that alcohol. Its a shame your not getting to Vancouver, as there are some great micros here that don't bottle, Storm Brewing and the Mark...

    Variation On Texas Brown

Sounds like a tasty beer. Next beer I'm planning to make some with fresh whole Cascade, one of my favourite styles. Ahh, I think G&G have some Weyermann Cara or Choc Wheat. Good luck with it

    Sanitising Cleaner

Quats are used to santise the brewing area (walls, floors, outside fermenters etc.) by some breweries. They are not really used for brewing equipment due to negative foam effects (Noonan) and, I spose, because they are much better sanitisers out there, like iodophor, phos acid, peroxitane...

    Federation Square Microbreweries Showcase

Went along on Thursday, didn't get there til 7 though so didn't get to try everything. Excellent turnout, bigger than Wednesday apparently. Saw a few familar faces in the crowd. I think the beers getting better, Red Hill's seasonals were good, Hargraves Pale is always good, 3 Ravens new White...

    4hr Brewday?

Good. Excellent. Looking forward to a zippy brewday. And as for organisation, well..... But I really think I can make the same quality beer in a much shorter time. Cheers, Sam
